As far as getting ideas of what to do with your regular cab check out the single cab thread.

I recently traded my 2012 in after much pondering. I liked the gas milage and just about everything else, but didn't like the lack of power. The double door set-up was a bid difficult to maneuver the camera gear I often stow in the back. So, on a whim I stopped into my local dealership and got a price to trade in and trade up to a double cab V6 4x4. They gave me $20,500 for my 2.7, with 45,000 miles. They said that used trucks like mine were difficult to find.
I am happy with everything about the V6 with the exception of what appears is going to be shitty gas mileage... aside from putting in a K&N filter, I'm not going crazy with the many things you can do, which do little to nothing to increase the gas mileage enough to justify spending the doe.

    Thanks for listening.
It's snowing here in Massachusetts, but who cares...4WD.

How much weight is that trailer and what do you have in the rear keeping it from being so low? (if you do)

It's listed as 5300lbs dry, and I have an extra leaf in back (for a total of 5). I also have a weight distributing hitch. I run Load range E tires @50psi.

yeaa, it sucked. Just glad it all worked out. As much as i like my 4.0's power and loud exhaust, there was something about that tractor growl from the 2.7 that i loved. If i didnt tow so much so often i woulda got another:)

I shopped for a long time, and looked at lots of options before I decided to go with the 2014 2.7 Access 5spd 4wd. So far I'm really happy with it, although the mileage isn't too impressive for the amount if power (17.3mpg avg in 2500mi I've owned it). Granted it is better than most other 4x4's I have owned and pretty decent around town, it isn't impressive in the highway. It has respectable power, and actually accelerates ok if you whip the shit out of it to redline, haha. I haven't done any work to it yet, but appears it will be much easier to work on under the hood compared to the V6 because of the extra room.
There was a 2.7 AC 4wd Auto on the lot (Indiana) where I bought mine, but manual transmissions were scarce around here. WV seemed to have all of the trucks spec'd like I wanted and that's where mine came from.

Previous poster mentioned he was getting 17 + average in 2.7 4x4 ext cab tacoma. It will definitely improve. In summer months in MA I was getting an average of 23mpg... a while using care not to step on it. I did have a K&N air filter, not sure if that helped.

for sure, before my lift and larger tires I was 26+ mpg. It does blow ass on the highway though
