Anyone here ever broken the rear differential on their truck? I think I may have tonight in my 2013 Tacoma. There is a lot of popping and clanking come from the rear end of the truck when I am trying to drive slowly. I parked the truck right after it started and will be calling the dealer tomorrow to have it towed to the dealership. How possible is it that the dealership could link a broken rear end to a lift kit and aftermarket All-terrain tires? Thanks

If you're on warranty you should be covered

Tires and lift shouldn't break an axle that easily. Have you been wheeling at all recently? Most likely you will get hassled by the stealership but you should be able to get it cleaner by calling corporate.

I dont really wheel yet, we did get a good bit of snow recently and I was just climbing up a snow pile in a parking lot and the back tire started to spin then caught traction and thats when I heard a pop...

Yeah don't say anything about climbing the snow pile. They may try to use it against you even though the diff should be able to handle that just fine.

I didn't really climb out under it and check it, but the drive shaft and u-joints looked fine from the side peeking under. I had a tow truck pick it up and take it to the dealer i bought it from, today. After getting it off the tow truck the guy was backing it into a parking spot and when the wheels are turned and while backing it there were some very loud clanks and alot of jerking. I'm 100 percent positive the spider gear is busted in the differential and causing it. I'm just gonna tell them the tires were slipping a little bit while going uphill on some ice and as soon as it hit a dry patch of asphalt there was a loud pop and then it started acting that way. I'm sure that it will be covered, the truck is super clean and there are no signs of any off roading or anything they could try to link it to. I will keep this post updated.

I read some of a thread recently with another member having their rear differential fail. They had a lift if I remember correctly and their dealer fixed it. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Oh shut the fuck up. Hey if you don't like police, keep it to yourself. And don't call them when you're in desperate need or help.

Nothing to do with my like or dislike of anyone...are law enforcement officers not held to a "higher standard of ethics", by definition?

Cop or not, one should not be a fraudulent liar...

fact is rear diff shouldn't break by climbing a snow bank..especially being a brand new truck.

    warranty should cover this

I would think one of your u-joints would blow apart first before the spider gear.
What the hell would suddenly gave you traction while climbing the snow pile when your wheels were spinning?

Not starting shit here saying you're right or wrong, I'm just curious from your statement.

It is possible you could have broke something, due to the lift. Most people when they do lifts neglect to correct the pinion angle. Which can increase the risk of u joint failure. It is kind of weird that you broke a non locker rear. these are stronger then the locker counter parts. You probably got into bad wheel hop (aka axle wrap another increase incident due to lift) when you were spinning and then got traction.
