I'd rather waste gas than push my trans with 150k on it. As awesome of a deal as I got it for from you, I would like to avoid buying a third transmission

If I'm not mistaken, 6th gear would be our overdrive, as 5th should be the 1:1 ratio gear.

Makes sense but 5th and 6th are pretty close ratios.

But if you're flat towing and the truck will stay in O/D, torque convertor locked up, no need to be in 4th. When you're on hills or the truck keeps hunting between O/D and 4th or the torque convertor keeps locking and unlocking, then you want to kick it down to 4, otherwise, you are not doing any damage to your transmission and you'll be building up less heat in your engine. 4th is too low for highways in my opinion, regardless if you're towing or not.

Oh, oh, oh, I am, I am :woot:

Kendra, Joseph and I are finishing up a long weekend in NY after visiting Grandma and Grandpa. Heading back out today and going to see if the new bed cover I installed while I was here did anything for highway MPGs.

Nice. How do you like the Ford on long trips? The stx I had at work was actually pretty damn comfy. Rode nice, seats were good.

I dunno about CT, but we're supposed to get another 3-6" where I live in MA (around Gillette).
