My 2014 has started making an unhealthy grinding/rattling sound when I start it after it has sat a while (usually over night). I bought it brand new in late Oct. 2013 and this has been going on for about a month. When I start the truck the sound starts about 1-2 seconds after and continues for around 3-5 seconds and then fades away. It doesn't happen after the truck warms up or if it hasn't sat for a long period of time.

While my dealership had it for 5k service they looked at it and acknowledged the sound, but said it seemed to be coming from my aftermarket intake (of course). I'm reinstalling the factory intake in two days, but does anyone have any other ideas what this could be?

It doesn't sound like the sound the smog pump makes when the engine shuts down.

I will get an audio clip tomorrow and post.

Maybe something wrong with the smog pump. The aftermarket intake is probably making the noise more pronounced.

I can't get an audible sound clip. It is still making the sound with the factory intake back on. It doesn't seems to be coming from the same area as the smog pump sound, but more from the back, bottom, of the motor.

Starter solenoid / bendix sticking... Get the dealer to check / replace it.

The sound is the Bendix Gear getting turned by the flywheel gear.

    Do dents and scratches count?
I second. Bendix gear may sticky and not fully retract on startup.

Yeah. The front pump on my trany wasn't working, so it was running dry when I would start my truck after it had been sitting for a while. They put in a new trany about 6k miles ago and it's running great now. No more sound.
