If I remember I'm going to video it with my iPad for the 1st Gen guys. From the sounds and looks of it it should be pretty easy. I'm going to find the torque specs in the factory service manual hopefully.

 

Anyone know what size nut, the top nut for the strut rod is on the 2nd Gen Blstn 5100's? I can't tell if it is the M12 1.50 or the 1/2"x20. Thanks in advance.

 

Ok guys I'm.lifting my 07 sr5 bilstien 5100s and fox 3 inch rear long aal dif drop spacer skid plate spacer drop carrier bearing spacer sway bar drop brackets I know I need new brake lines and haven't heard much about proportioning valve will look into and the e brake extensions?. Going cooper atp lr e 265 75 16 on stocks for now my real question is can I put the 5100s on there stock hight or even like 1.75 and put.2 inch leveling lift spacers on top to help give them more extension and keep my stock ucas thanks any opinion at this point really helps

 

Well, I ended up getting the stock coils out using this method, and using a strut spring compressor to get the ToyTec/Bilstein struts assembled. Was still a very easy process. I just didn't want to loosen my LCA's to get it done.

 

Is a 3.5 ton floor jack big enough for this project or do I need to buy something bigger????

 

My 3 ton was plenty high enough.

 

So is the video at the beginning of this thread good for the Gen 1 Taco?

I just want to change my shocks.

I don't want to replace anything else.

Damn before I get too ahead of myself and start ripping my suspension apart for this method does this work with the Eibach spring? I would hate to get to that part and not be able to compress that bad boy.

 

Did it with my 885's, no problem.

 

Just did it with OME 886's and a top plate, no problem. Also, the strut rod thread is

$13 M12x1.25 mm Self-Locking Nylon Insert Hex Lock Nuts, Pack of 6

M12x1.25

 

If you are running stock coils, and doing nothing other than replacing your struts, this should work like a charm!

Setting at 2.5 adding shock extensions 2 inch. Do you think.I need to worry about swapping the brake lines looking at a 2 "4 inch extension set braided with vcs for a 2007 sr5 front back but it doent seem to have the extension for the e break axle drop when I add the aal and 3 inch fox shocks. My real other question is do you think the drop carrier and skid plate /dif drop is necessary I also.Will install the sway bar drop. Let me know what you guys think thanks

 

I also did this with my 885s and it worked with no issues. I'm surprised to hear that it worked with 886s. Even when re-compressing my 885s I could see the front end of the truck starting to come off the jack stands, but good to know that it is possible to do 886s.

 

I think the weight of the bumper and winch may have helped out in that respect.

 

If you are wanting to change the shocks that run inside of your coil springs on the front of your truck, they are not actually called shocks. They are struts. That's why it, when all put together, is called a strut assembly. That is also why, if you decide to use a compressor to disassemble/reassemble it, then you would need a Strut Spring Compressor, and not a Coil Spring Compressor.

As far as all of the proper instructions, the video more or less gives you what you need. Here is another good thread to do some research on:

Make sure you have all the tools necessary before you start the job. And I think it's a good idea to stop by your local O'Reilly or Auto Zone and rent a Compressor, just in case.

Just installed my Eibach with 5100's, wasnt too bad just was a P.I.T.A getting everything lined and torqued with very little clearance but saved 300 bucks to do it my damn self. Now its at the alignment shop getting lined up!!!! Cheers!!!
