I just spoke to my shop (High Country 4x4 in Boone) about installing my lift. He warned me that with the '12 and up trucks, if you go upsize the tires a good bit, it will interfere with the ESP badly. He has two customers at the moment, that say the truck brakes for them in curves due to the interia sensor. They are on the same 285/70 I plan to run. Can someone please provide some info/a solution for this. I was not aware, and this is terrible news. Not sure how I have not read about this. He said it has been 6 months since he researched, and at that time, the dealer etc had no solution. Thanks in advance for your time!

Thanks, guys. That is scary. Is this event pretty violent when it occurs? I had an 09 lifted 3"/1.5" with 285/70's for almost two years, and never one issue. I suppose I will see how this plays out. Can I have this re-callibration done somewhere other than the dealer?

Not scary for me, just annoying. On a turn down a mountain, the yaw sensor kicked in and the truck braked hard but I never lost control

    X2

It can cause understeer as the computer thinks the truck is going into a tailslide condition and tries to keep the rear end from coming around which is great except if it occurs when you are in a right hand corner and it activates and begins to push you straight on into the oncoming lane

Argh! Anyone on here been hurt? Worst part is, about all we have are curvy roads where I live. Cannot believe I made it with the 09, with not one issue. This almost feels like forum hazing.

What is the mod to disable?

I already posted the pdf in my link to recalibrate the VSC after you lift and this has been an issue since the '09's

From a Toyota tech, now shop foreman with 30+ years under his belt, and is VERY familiar with lifts....

We do Tundra and Tacoma lifts every day. No problems! I talked to my other installer who learned from me and he looked at me like I had 3 heads. The only issue we have run into is when people run more than 46psi air pressure in their tires, or if they take corners to fast and the vehicle thinks the tire is going to spin or slip. No VSC recalibration needed and DO NOT put spacers under the Yaw rate sensor. I’ve also run into this issue from poor lift kit installs. They stretch the speed sensor wires (which don’t look damaged externally but are internally). Or they didn’t follow the lift manufacturer install instructions exactly. Not sure how to help you….we don’t have any issue lifting vehicles and have never really heard of it. Not all what you see on the internet is truth.

This blows my mind. So does your asshole pucker everytime you enter a curve? Just waiting for the truck to try and kill you?

Which is why I figured fark it, I'm going with the Baja suspension kit for the SR5. Too many weird things going on with aftermarket kits from UCA rubs to goes clunk over speed bumps to VSC issues to gotta remove sway bars. I don't have time or money for all those issues . . . . . .

And here we are still trying to figure that out. Some of this, some of that maybe??? A combo kind of thing?

All I know is I figured I'm going with something Toyota proved out. It's not all that great as a lift and can't fit 285's on it but I can throw it into corners like a madman in any gear at any time in any drive mode and it doesn't misbehave.

OP, when it warms up I'm taking the tacoma over there to show Chris and Brad the ABS killswitch. If you'd want to meet up over there I'll pm you. It may be a month or so. Just a thought.

That would be great. I hope to be there the week of 3/17 for lift install. I decided to take it to those guys, to at least ensure a proper install. Do you concur?

Yeah, Chris Minnich is pretty good at what he does. I actually used to work over there about ten years ago. Chris and I worked together for a bit, before Aaron and I split off from High Country.

Brad is the one who will be doing the work. I was shocked a bit by the quote, and shop time, but oh well. I want it done right. I want my truck to kill me with a properly installed lift :p Do you still tinker with others trucks?
