Hey guys n girls. Lately I've been accelerating like a grandma to see what kind of mpg I can squeeze out of my baby. Also some hypermiling techniques but that's besides the question. Is accelerating slowly, like keeping it under 1800rpms before shifts (automatic) hard on the transmission? In any vehicle I've owned I notice they shift harder when you accelerate slowly. From my understanding this is because AT's use pressure to shift gears right? Is this hard on it? Thanks.

It'll be alright. They shift hard anyway. Mines the same way, especially when it's really cold.

Thanks :) I notice it shifts smoother when I accelerate harder thats why I was wondering. Don't want to harm my trans to save a few bucks on fuel.

That's because the clutch packs slip more under heavy load / hard acceleration, causing more wear and heat. Driving it with an egg under the right pedal won't cause excess wear, quite the contrary.

I have no mechanical or scientific knowledge to back it up but yes it does seem that letting it shift at low rpm's is extra stressful or at least it feels like it shifts harder. Also in an attempt to save fuel, i am wondering if it helps to get to the desired rpm/gear range quicker instead of feathering the throttle and having high rpm's for longer until it shifts into the gear you want for lower rpm's at the same speed. I guess that it the disadvantage of the Auto trans.

getting to a higher gear sooner helps with mpg since you are not having more revs. auto has the benefit of working well with this, not disadvantage. it may seem to shift harder but I honestly have never noticed it with mine

mine does it too but only when shifting into overdrive...seems to me the colder it is outside, the harder it shifts (with hard I mean it shifts really fast and you can feel it getting into gear) no clunk or anything...just noticable around 40mph

The A750 series has adaptive learning which means it learns how you drive and accomodates the upshifts according to how you drive or where you keep your foot on the gas . If you feel the transmission shifting hard , thats a good thing .
Got a couple links you can read in your spare time to learn about the issues with the trans .
