Just ordered the last one. Looks like it should mount on my front bumper really easily, or if I had to move it up higher to get a better view maybe it could mount on my grille or something.

the ones that are front view cameras should work, but the couple that are listed as front or rear; while they state to be switchable, it doesn't actually tell you how they are switched. so they may be assuming that you have a mirror function on the display, and are simply advertising that it is useful as both front or rear at that point.

Isn't a tank pressure gauge basically useless because it will show "full" pretty much until the end of the tank?

So far I have $70 into a used 'soda' 15# aluminum tank w/3 years left on the stamp, $55 into my fixed regulator from Wheelers, and $35 into my tank holder for a total of $165 (I already had air hose I got for free from a member). Wheelers sells a "set up" for 10# tank w/fixed regulator at $235. So basically I have the same set up for $60 cheaper and I have 50% more air volume. I saw zero advantage to buying a kit when I was researching.

Around me testing/certification of a used aluminum 15# tank only costs $20 so even if that's factored in I'm ahead of the kit price.

 

Yea I believe it was maybe the only one (or maybe there were 2) that said something in the details about being front facing and if you want it for a backup camera order a different model.

short answer on the tank gauge is no. because it will go ahead and bleed down just like any other guage, but instead of it reading line pressure it is reading the pressure in the tank.... so, nitrogen for instance typically comes filled to around 3000psi from what i rem, yet you are not going to run it at that obviously. so while you are running the regulator at 90 psi the first few pulls wont even budge the needle that is on the tank gauge but then after a bit you will notice it is now on 2900psi and then 1500psi and so on. in essence it doesnt show the exact "level" of what is left like a gas gauge in your car but it does show you what to expect and about when you are getting low. if any of my rambling make sense.

 

Perfect sence. I'll have a compressor for back up and just weigh the tank periodicaly.

 

most likely the exact route i will go. i already have the harbor freight high volume compressor and it does pretty well, but it has to rest a bit before it can finish all 4 tires. figure if i go ahead in get into the co2 stuff now i can go ahead and incorporate the mounts for it when i build the new bed rack/platform plus wont have to worry about the time and hassle of the compressor.

 

jsutin pretty much covered it. i haven't torn open a CO2 gauge/regulator adssembly, but they've figured out how to make it work somehow. i watched my tank gauge go down a little with each fill. i'm getting it refilled tomorrow, so it'll obviously read full, but i'll try to remember to take a picture of the tank pressure after a few fills.

furthermore, a tank gauge is a nice thing to have to verify that whoever is filling your tank is giving you a full fill. if they do a pour fill, you'll only get half(ish) capacity. a siphon fill will get you full capacity. you could do the same test with a scale, but i have no idea what my tank weighs empty, and don't own a scale.

i have a little $60 compressor from the autoparts store that chills at the bottom of the bed box just in case. going to get another 10 lb tank though for some redundancy, and extra capacity.

 

almost 7 years later, and i finally got some seat covers. Bought from Caltrend. should be getting made early next week and shipped out thursday or friday.

Go to academy and buy a cheap fishing scale. My last full tank weighed 26.6lbs. I'll get the empty weight the next time I run it dry.

1: The point of the gauge is that i don't need the scale now. i'm lazy, so a quick glance at a gauge is right up my alley

2: Yeah, got an oil stain on the passenger seat from when alexis spilled some greasy take-out food, and a hole in the drivers from wear and tear. should have gotten them long ago. ended up going with caltrend, and since they don't have the embroidering, i just ordered some American flag patches from Amazon to put on myself.

Don't they! I have fluids stored all around my truck, and have been eying the ones from ruff stuff and ballistic for a while, but never pulled the trigger. hopefully this GB gets off the ground and i'll finally pick up one or two.

 

Mine roll around in pelican cases or my recovery, etc tote.

 

yeah, bouncing around in the tool box, back seat, or bungied to the bed is getting old. just waiting for one to explode.....

i'll probably buy one regardless of the whether the GB happens or not. it's been a long time coming.

 

I'm surprised you aren't going to fab one yourself! are you still bouncing around the country without your welder?

 

I've got the welder and all of my tools here, but am pretty limited on when/where I can use it (first and last time I ever live in an apartment). and i'm just not very well set up for plate work just yet. I could make one, but it wouldn't look quite as clean as those.
