    Nice work!

Ive been reading that the non-bluetooth stereos will not make calls even if i add controls.

Now, if i get an aftermarket reciever, do you think i can install the right side bluetooth controls, to control the bluetooth calling? If so, i'll likely be doing this mod!

    Thanks,

    Greg

Not really sure. I'm gonna guess all you would need is an adapter for that specific aftermarket headunit.

Great write up. Considering looking at the NEWER style steering wheel. Wonder if it will all be plug and play.

Also, wanted to look at the T4R for heated steering wheel. New clock spring and the works. Not sure if it would all work though. Switches are not an issue to wire up. More worried about the rest of it and air bags.

Any updates regarding a steering wheel from the refreshed Tacoma? I am thinking it might be cheaper to buy an entire steering wheel with the audio controls from a salvage yard for those of us who just have a standard wheel now.

Also, can someone confirm if a standard radio (non-JBL) in a 2007 Tacoma will have bluetooth capability if I add the controls and a mic?

If not, it is my understanding I will need to buy an aftermarket receiver with bluetooth (deciding between a Sony WX-GT90BT or Pioneer FH-X700BT) and buy the SWI-PS (Pacaudio) interface.

I just did this mod on my 2011 which already had the volume controls on the left side. It is confirmed all that is needed is the right side steering wheel controls and the ribbon cable. This mod was super easy and no need at all to remove the steering wheel or air bag at all.

Loosen the T30 on both sides:

    SteeringLeft_zpsd8f5cf5c_ae57b9d6c2773ed8cce14ca04e3f1cc03453b778.jpg

After loosening the front airbag and horn button assembly can come off for access. There is no need to remove any of the air bag wires or remove the steering wheel.

Take off the blank right side control.

    BlankButtons_zps010339c0_f96f8a5fefc1545863cc2cf1ede0c7f3c1c1c981.jpg

Connect the ribbon cable to the new controls.

    RibbonCable_zps8fe3c7f3_895f8a2f1bcf2a1a7eb9ed16ba38ab3df6cec2cc.jpg

Unscrew the existing control so you can connect the ribbon cable to it.

    RibbonConnected_zpsa72da173_276a4fc62616df9049694f4fb9c575e61650aead.jpg

Re-secure both sides of the steering wheel controls including the placing the clip on the ribbon cable to the steering wheel housing.

    AirBagLoosened_zpsee1c0119_16482f6dd05b131073523dd201941b0fca68ac43.jpg

Put back the air bag horn button assembly and tighten back the t30 screws on both sides.

    Finished_zpsd9553e74_35997f9e4ae65002ee68d8c9e256dd4912e851c2.jpg

You now have both side steering wheel controls!

I want to thank the OP for showing us this great mod. Very easy and inexpensive if you already have left side controls on your truck. Hope this can help everybody else looking to do this mod themselves.

    Nice!

Did you wire these controls up to an aftermarket HU, do they work properly?

    Thanks,
    Greg

They were wired up to an Pioneer AppRadio 1 and worked perfectly. I just finished installing a Pioneer AVIC 8000NEX and they are still working perfectly without any programing of the Axxess ASWC-1. I have never even updated the ASWC-1 to the latest firmware since the old unit I have uses a special connector unlike the new ones which have a micro USB port.

That's great to hear, i can't wait to do this upgrade. How are you liking the 8000NEX? I've always liked pioneer.

I love the 8000NEX. I was waiting a very long time to upgrade from an original AppRadio which quickly became just a radio after Apple when to the Lightning connector.

I am hoping this radio can last the life of my truck as it has all the features I could want right now including Car Play mode which works with the steering wheel controls also.

The only thing I can see adding to the system is a flip down rear seat monitor and a mobile hd tv tuner.

I'm not the OP I just updated the thread for people who already have steering wheel controls on the left side but no controls on the right side. The OP did just what you were asking upgrade his stock steering wheel to one with controls. It is an expensive mod because it requires purchasing an air bag and a few other parts but can be done.

As to a write up of the radio install there is a couple out there that I used to reference when I I was doing mine. I should do one myself since I know it could be helpful to others but after finishing my install I dread opening my dash for a while.

Thanks for the info, great write up. I just put the blu tooth controls on the rhs of my steering wheel, the controls dont seem to work but all the volume etc still work just fine not sure what the problem would be any thoughts? It's connected just like yours right to left with the ribbon etc, I even used the same part numbers and have an 08. I have an aftermarket deck (Alpine) everything still works fine except the blu tooth controls.

I have been wanting to add the switches for the volume in my truck for a while, what all would I need? Ive got a 06 tacoma sport, would i just need the cable and the cover and switch? or would I need a new clockspring?

I just got a decent deal on a 2013 wheel for my 2005 taco without any wheel controls (plain wheel, but loaded truck otherwise, TRD Sport). hoping to get an airbag cheap and clockspring and will let everyone know how it goes.

PS if anyone knows a reason this wont work, please share!!

I just did the right side blue tooth controls on my 2010 .
I already have the left side steering wheel controls .
I have a factory non jbl 6 disc receiver .
With this said , the Bluetooth controls wont work if you didnt have a factory bluetooth receiver .If you keep the factory radio , you need the blue logic controller http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/80492-2007-tacoma-blu-logic-install-how.html

However , if you are installing an aftermarket receiver with bluetooth , the right side controls will function fine as long as you purchase the Aswc controller and hopefully your new receiver came with a michrophone .

Hey man. What does the third bluetooth steering wheel button do when you press it with the new HU? I understand answer and hangup, but when you press the lower button does it go to siri or something?
