Yes, for the rear leaf pack you would only order a pair of 6" lifted leaves. You need to be very specific when you order them so that they understand you don't just have a 6" lift and that that you are 8" in the front so you need a full 6" in the rear.

If you plan to off-road you will regret the tall lift trust me and you could spend the same amount of money you are talking about and have a bad ass full long travel rig done right. Not going to pull any punches I wish someone would have said this to me in 2006 - You are choosing looks over a better functioning suspension and no matter how much money you spend to make it right your center of gravity is so tall with an 8" lift that any serious off-roading is scary as fook because you are very top heavy.

I was super stubborn and wanted to make it work so here is what I ended up with, I think you will find that most will agree this is the only " right " way to do a big lift :

I have a 6" National leaf pack in the rear with 14" King adjustable remote resi shocks on custom lower mounts and custom upper towers + a custom trac bar to control the axle wrap with the large leaf pack. In the front I have the ProComp brackets only everything else has been removed because all the ProComp stuff is garbage. I have Dirt King upper and lower control arms with custom King coil overs that are approximately 6" stroke CO's ( 28.5" extended and 22.5" collapsed cycle ) with remote adjustable resi's which yield almost 12" of travel up front. Just custom shocks front and rear with some fab work for the rear mounts are an easy $4k

The problem with the 20" wheels even with a 35" tire is that you have a small sidewall profile that is very stiff and even when you air down off-road you will not achieve the tire profile you want. I am throwing my 20's away and going back down to 18's for that exact reason... And another problem with DB lift kits is that you must run an 18" rim with 4.5 back spacing to clear the tie rod end relocation point on the spindles and the spindle itself behind the tire. DO not go with more back spacing or you will never be able to air down.

 

Alright man im about to research the hell outta all this so before I do tell me how much this all is first? lol

The way I see it is for 8k you can get a 3inch lift, 35's, wheels, re-gear and locker. If you are dead set on 20'' rims then the price jumps a ton just because of the price of tires but I think its still under 8k.

 

I'm sure your tired of hearing my opinion lol but just as a base price idea I'm at 2k for everything including tires without install

NO not at all man! That's insane though! Theres so much I could do with 6k!!!

 

I got another offroad rig for 5k but now it's more of a daily. With 6 you could do bumpers, armor, coilovers, custom packs and tires if you tried and budgeted well. I got a new to me (it's a 72) truck and fully outfitted my truck except for armor for the price I was gonna pay for 9inches. I think everyone with myself included are trying to say that you could probably spend that more wisely on some badass stuff and it'll be super functional and cool

 

Yeaaaah im getting that impression lol. Who knows man, maybe ill keep the 4runner get a better suspension and then but the 8 on the Tacoma.. idk, lot of thinking

 

Oh and alcansprings quoted me 1000 bucks for 6 inch springs when someone else on here got them for 500.. wtf. i think i might have to go with nationalsprings.

 

Check out your regional thread and see what most around your area are doing nobody knows best about a setup in your area than them. It's what I did and they certainly swayed me the other way lol

 

An omd might be a better idea if your not afraid to get dirty

And if i went through with all this is it true that i would need to get 6 inch leaf springs instead of 8... several people have to me 8 inch leaf springs... kinda confused.

You build your own one of a kind leaf pack from old leaves from trucks at the junkyard. I'm doing it and I'm shooting for 3 inches for under 60 bucks. You get way better flex and ride than store bought leaves. Idk if anyone's done 6 inches yet but I'm positive it's doable

Think about man... A 2" lift in the front just levels the truck hence the clever name " leveling kit ".

So I'm not a rocket scientist but the math looks like this :

2" front = 0" rear to stay level

4" front = 2" rear lift needed

6" front = 4" rear lift needed

8" front " 6" rear lift


If you get an 8" leaf pack your truck will look like a 70's hot rod van with a shit ton of rake.... You might as well airbrush a big wizard riding a rainbow on your truck if you order an 8" leaf pack... Big side pipes would sa-weet too !

6" Alcan's don't cost anyone $500 they are full of crap a 6" leaf pack will average around $700ish + a big fat shipping charge.

 

The other 4 were wrong about what? So what there old? There's nothing wrong with them and if they break or mess up in any way just slap some new bad boys on

5th page, and i wasn't doubting you. I was just making sure since 4 other people told me that i would need 8 inch leaf springs. And i thought that the leaf springs gave it the 2 inch difference when stock.
