After reading the 'first ticket' post, I thought I'd start this thread. Let me explain how I got away with a doozy:

I'm on my '03 ZZR1200 (motorcycle). Thing does 180, but I haven't hit that since I was stationed in Germany. That's serious jailtime no matter where you are in the US.

Bike was just tuned up the week before, making it run better in the Colorado altitude, and I was in a hurry to a luncheon.

So I'm trying to make some time and get behind a couple slow folks. Finally the road opens up another set of lanes and I can legally to 65 instead of the slow 45 I was doing before. But I accelerate to about 80 to pass the slow people with a wide road open ahead of me, car free for at least 3 miles.

I slow down to wave at some bikers coming from the other direction. That's when I notice one of the cars I pass, a plain-Jane Durango, all in my mirrors. So I lay down and crank her up to about 120 (in the 65). Before you attack me, please remember that NO cars were in front of me for miles, it's a straight stretch of road.

I do that for about 1.5 miles to get away from the stalker, then sit up and slow back down to 65. What seemed a few seconds later I see something in my mirrors. It's that Durango again!!! But now I see the red and blue lights above his rear-view mirror

I pull over immediately. He's got my plate and all, no use in running. As I make it obvious I'm not running, I'm shaking like a leaf. I know I'm going to jail. I know I'm going to pay $1k+ in fines. I'm so f'ed....:(

He comes up and I say "I f'ed up, huh?" He just says "Yep, license and registration". After an agonizing 5 minutes he comes back and says "I appreciate that you did that in an area with nobody around. I used to own an R1 and race an R6 now, so I know what it's like to want to open her up sometimes. Use better judgement next time". Then, he walked away!!!! :yay:

I realize all to well that's the one time in my entire life that I'll ever be that lucky. I bought a lottery ticket after, but the luck was gone by then.

    So, what's your best?

Waaaay back in my mid 20's, after a late night of partying I was driving home behind the wheel of a friend's Porsche 911. (he was passed out in the passenger seat) Being young, stupid and bulletproof my thought of course, was 'I wonder how fast I can take this rocket sled through this cloverleaf interchange up here?" Coming out the other side I had slowed - to about 95 - when I got pulled over. The cop was walking back to his cruiser with my license when he got another call - which must have been very important - because he ran back up to my window and said "what do you do for a living?" I told him, and he said "then you ain't no f***ing race car driver are you?" "No sir" "Then quit driving like one you f***ing moron or I will put you under the jail!" He then tossed me my license, sprinted back to his car and took off.

I'm glad that cop 'got it.' I hate when they run right up on your butt until you speed to get away from them, then light you up. Around here it usually happens at night so you can't tell it's a cop. I don't think they should be able to do that at all in an unmarked car, but I'm not the king of the world.

    Lucky you.

I don't have a story like that... but once upon a time [somebody I know] tailgated an unmarked Mississippi State Trooper. I'm talking right on his butt. He was going the speed limit, which apparently wasn't fast enough for her. He lit her up, but spared her the ticket for some reason.

He said i dont wanna see you again,I said, i love him and he laughed, and iwent home.

To make a long story short...

I just got back from Afganistan in 2002. I got pulled over in a Jeep I just purchased from my brother. I was doing 88 in a 55. I told the cop my story and told him I thought it was a 65 zone not a 55. He explained to me that it was a construction zone so the limit was 55. He went and ran my info and came back to tell me he was letting me off since I thought it was a 65 insted of a 55. Either way I still thought I was going 23 over the speed limit!

Anyways to that cop out there who helped this veteran out... THANK YOU!

1985. Me and a buddy had just left the community college we were going to when we see this beautiful girl in a Pontiac Fiero turn up a 2 lane road. Of course we decide to check her out and follow her, but there was a car between us. So I put the hammer down in my 68 Camaro and make an illegal pass to get behind her. As soon as I pull out into the oncoming lane, there are two motorcycle cops with radar guns pointed right at me. I instantly pull over, because I know I'm busted. The cop comes up to the door and my buddy starts making excuses. Something about forgetting our books and we were in a hurry to get back to class. The cop looks at me and says "I saw the girl in the Fiero." He let me go. Lucky day, except I never did see that Fiero again.

A few years back when I was a bit younger and a whole lot more stupid I used to ride around on a 00 busa. I was on my way home from visiting with the girl that I was seeing at the time when some kid on a gsxr 750 decided that he wanted to fly on by me. Being 18 and and invincible I decided to give her the beans and show him what that 1300 could do. He was doing somewhere in the neighborhood of 110 to 120 when I passed him, I was doing 160 and climbing. Not the brightest move in the world to begin with then throw in the fact that it was about one am and that stretch of road is always full of deer.

Fast forward to two nights later. I am pumping gas into my pickup at the local station and see one of the county cops that I have known for years pull in. He walkes over and says hi then goes on to say this; "The other guy got a ticket for doing 112 in a 65. Sell your bike." I gave him kind of a dumb look and he said that he was sitting just off the highway on a dirt road when we blew past and he recognized my bike.

I did take his advice and put the bike up for sale after a close call with a deer doing 120 or so about two weeks later. I ride a harley now and I honestly have no idea how fast it goes. I bought it with the cash from selling that busa back in 2000 and I have never had it over 80 mph in the nine years that I have been riding it. That cop is now a frequent riding buddy of mine. He harps on my about my pipes (I have short shots with no baffles at the moment) every time we go out for a ride. I just smile and tell him I could get a quieter bike, like a busa or a zx-14.

Was late one night and I dropped a friend off to get his car and I pulled out of the parking lot driveway took off and ran through 1st gear didn't burn out or anything and let off at the light, and apparently there was a cop in the parking lot I pulled out of in the dark. The lot had a bunch of riced out civics and stuff, so I guess he was there watching them. After I went through the stoplight he pulled me over and asked why I did that and I was like "Cause I felt like it." Hes like well don't do it again and let me go.

<---Old Fart here. I haven't been written up in 20+ years but get pulled over regularly about every 6 months for speeding. Last two that I recall were 75 in a 50 = I fought my way through a parade of traffic only get into a clear spot and blew right past a cop leading the pack. I have no record and my excuse of "late for a meeting" did the trick.
55 in a 40 = Back country road, cop coming at me. Let me go with a few friendly words.
A few "Yes Sir's" and "How high, Sir?" helps a lot in those situations!

Back during college, my buddy had an old Chevy Chevette. He was picking up a new car the next day and wanted to go take the Chevette out in style.
There is a set of train tracks near my house with quite the lip on one side and a four foot drop off on the other. You guessed it, we jumped that Chevette 5 or 6 times each time going further up the road and trying to go faster each time. Now before we did this, we dropped a buddy off, and asked him to take any and all beers out of the car. The car itself had no instument lights so I in the passenger seat was holding a flashlight to see how fast we were going, one guy in the back with a beer case on his head for a makeshift helmet and of course my buddy the driver trying to go faster each time and further off the jump.
We would leave a rooster tail of sparks each time we jumped, laughed our asses off and turned around hooting and hollering to do it again.
The last time, we cracked something, because we had fluids leaking. So upon limping away we see a set of lights turn on in a gas station across the way. We freak knowing its the cops. We go about a mile with the cop following and then he hits the lights and pulls us over.
He comes up to the window with a half smile and says "What do you three think you are, superheroes?", I couldnt help it but was busting my gut!
He asked us to get out and if he would find any alcohol in the car. We said no way as we knew our buddy took all the beers out when we dropped him off. He is searching the car as we are standing there with grins, half from nerves and half because we did think this was funny. Then he pulls out a Coors Light and places it on the roof of the car and asks "whats this?", we are all under age, and scared shit...
He gives us the scolding of our lives, and procedes to follow us home, WITHOUT A TICKET!
I think he knew we were scared shit, and the entertainment he was given was enough.
    What a night!

    Wow......2 Times.
Once, I was doing 112 in a Bus lane (35 mph), my bike happened to run out of gas, as I was being pulled over. Cop told me "Its guys like you that make me have to Fucking work late! Keep it down!", and he sped off......

Second (and last), was early one morning, I got on the 202 out here, for a morning ride, just started accelerating kinda briskly. No traffic, except for 2 mini vans. One was in the right lane, one was in the left lane. I shot thru them in the middle, and it was a sweeping bend. I came under an over pass, saw a cop, looked at my speedo, and saw 120 mph. "fuck", I said. I glanced in my mirror, and saw the cop pulling out with his lights on. I knew I could loose him in no time, but I pulled over. I was about 3/4 mile ahead of him at this point. I pulled over, had my paperwork in hand, and leaning on the bike. He walks up and says, " I guess you know why your pulled over?"...."Yep" I said, as he went back to his car. He came back and told me, " If I write you a ticket for the speed you were going, and dont take you in, my boss will have my ass". I said, " I understand". And the cop walked back to his car. A min later, He came back with all of my paperwork, and a warrning with "70 in a 65" written on it. he said, "If I see you speeding on this stretch again, I WILL take you in". I wanted to hug the guy, but I maintained my composer, and said "Thank you", I turned around, went home, and put my bikes up for sale. I havent sped since. :)

My first and only almost ticket was for doing 92 in a 45, that's the teaser.

We have a light with dual lanes going west, which then merge (Left into Right) into 1 with a boulevard separating oncoming traffic. Yes I was young "20."
I was in left lane in a 72 SS chevelle waiting on the light. A 5.0 Mustang pulls up in the right lane, makes sign to run'em. I glanced at him and watched the light. Light turned green and I accelerated as if in normal traffic. The Mustang got on it, and left me by about a car and a half. I put on my right signal and started to switch lanes when he slammed on the breaks, I quickly swerved and got back in my lane as i passed him with out speeding up. Started to get back into the right lane while in front of him, then I heard him coming quickly enough to I thought hit my car so I switched back to the left lane. Well Now I was pissed so I dropped the Th400 into 1st and let her eat. Well a cop was behind us the whole time and pulled me over, only because I saw his lights and pulled over while the Mustang kept on going. The cop was very professional and asked how fast I was going I responded 85 or 86, to which he asked why I said that. I told him that's about when she shifted into 3rd. He then said I was doing 92, and asked for my license and said if I had no previous record he would let me go because he saw the Mustang taunting me. And that I should have slowed after I passed him. Good news I had at that time no record and he let me go after a look at my car.
