I dont think you understand, any manufactured weapon in the US has to have a serialized ID per the gun act of 1969, its a sales and tracking thing simply.

You are allowed , by law, to build your own weapon 1 time a year, no registration.

I forgot to add...In Ca. registration is mandatory for all purchased WHOLE weapons.

1.5" Wheel spacers all around, 2.0 fox coil over with foxes in the back to match it up, add a leaf. 285/70/r16 general grabbers. my magnaflow exhaust k&n intake just threw in some maxtrac spindles. Total chaos UPA. Bunch of other little things
I'm 100% brand new to rifles that's why I was really just looking for input on a type of rifle first. I'll end up just buying a complete one. The original question was avoided from everyone I'm not too concerned with having it registered I'd rather just have input on a type or rifle that I won't have issues with

Understood, I am assuming you want a sporter/plinker type weapon for fun desert shooting?

If so, DPMS makes decent ar's at a very affordable price, I have owned a few and they were good weapons.

if you want an ar with some goodies but an affordable price you will have to buy used, Gun Brokers is a good place to look, likewise they have a decent FFL network so buying and have it legally shipped/registered is not that bad.

with that said, I'd visit a local Turners near you and check out their selection and chat with them, I deal with the turners in Escondido and Kearney Mesa and have nothing but good things to say.

I for sure an AR and just desert shooting/long range what barrel size would you go with?

a more tactical barrel setup would be a 16" with a slow twist, and is a good flat shooting combo for anything upto 150-200yards. this will be limited by ammo
a 16" standard twist barrel will net you 100-150yards max and will shoot almost any ammo

If your looking for longer distance 20" with an A2 profile and fast twist, but will make it expensive and not easy to handle.

another thing to consider is if you are going to afford optics then the gun wont be shootable until you have optics for it, you can adapt optics to an iron site rifle but its a bit cumbersome.

Nice yeah I've read online about a few barrels and just got mixed reviews I'll end up with a 16". Just didn't wanna end up getting somthing I hate and being stuck with a pos. and would you suggest getting it firing mixed 223/556 or stick with firing only one or does it even matter?

223/556 are one in the same

its a good round, fair affordable, not like the old days you can run military ball ammo and good ammo too. just make sure not to buy corrosive primer mil ammo, or clean the rifle right after use if you do.

I live really close to tds guns. They're pretty good folks to deal with. Since you're in east county try checking out Wilde built in El Cajon.

So I'll just go down this path....anytime a weapon or barrel is stated one before the other round or chamber it typically means one can be fired in it and in that order i.e. like I had typed 223/556, likewise the hoopla over 223 in a 556 but not a 556 in a 223 is kind of a fairytale.

Here's a good read on that very subject as well as good data to support his findings.
