Has anyone tried mounting it on the other side and keep it extended to close the window? I saw it mentioned earlier that there is some slop when fully extended, but if the window opening could be unrestricted it would reduce the chance of damage to the rod. One case I could think of is if you decide to open the window and put long items in the bed that may rest on the rod.

Just wondering how bad the wobble is when extended?

Just finished this last night, I used a tap a fuse for the power source. Another tip is to use rear view mirror glue for the bracket on the window. I need to find a better switch location.

It's noisy but better than having a window that is pretty useless from the drivers seat lol.

Really interested in doing this (OP version), but am wondering about how these hold up long term. I looks like one person reported his actuator failed after about one year, was that just a fluke or are others having similar problems...

I just bought everything to do this, $108 shipped. Looks simple enough, and since I broke my latch, I thought this is a more cost effective option than just replacing the latch.

Please let us know what "everything" is and where you bought it. Toyota left is hanging on this and a working mod has been kicked around here forever. I am curious to see what you do and how it works.

I'll probably also use some metal laying around to see if I can hide the actuator, and some sound dampening mat to muffle the buzz from the actuator.

Finished my install and found this spot for the switch.

I had to use a dremmel to open up the slot (width) as the switch is about 2 inches deep and almost the size of the front.

I recommend using epoxy for the window mount (the kind where you mix 2 kinds together). I tried it with rear view mirror "glue" and after letting it set overnight (the bottle said 4 hours) it separated right away. The gorilla glue epoxy has had no issues.

Side note: I got the switch that you press once and it goes until the window is all open or closed. I thought it would then "switch" off. The actuater does turn off, but the switch stays in the "open" or "close" position, so in my mind it is still sending power. I just turn it to the middle position when done. Not a big deal, but was not what I was expecting.

Here is exactly what I bought a Firgelli:
Item Description Qty Taxable Unit Price Item Total
    FA-MS-8-12-12 Mini Style 12" Stroke 8lbs Forc 1 N US $75.00
    MAN-RS Manual "Sustaining" Rocker Swit 1 N US $9.00
    MB4 Mounting Bracket for all Mini A 1 N US $2.00
Shipping: United Parcel Service (Ground) US $16.05
    Total: US $102.05

I bought the wiring from Lowe's. I got alarm wire for around $4 (it came with 4 wires, but it turns out I only needed 2 wires).

Got mine about 2 months ago. Maybe try the quieter ones listed above? I would have spent the extra for the less noisy...

I might try to just order my cart, because the website has said the same thing for at least 6 months now.
