Dual battery setup, Help

im putting together a pretty powerful audio system (Soundstream class A 10.0 and a Pheonix Gold ZX450) and will want to do a dual battery setup with an isolator. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and have pics of the setup. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks

 

you can use an isolator but i have done many installs and never used one. the shop i worked at didnt like using them. never had any issues with not using one. so im sure you will hear different opinions on using them. personally i would think you should for safety reasons.

 

Im using a pretty powerful system aswell (hifonics 1210, l7, large 4 ch amp and 4 polks) I just hooked up two optimas pos to pos, neg to neg and it works great( i also have about a million other electronics and i can let my truck sit with all of them on for hours upon hours and itll start fine)

 

Dont use an isolator, they pull current as well. Use a 200 amp relay. Stinger makes them. I cannot remember the schematic, I will dig it up if I can find it.

You can use batteries without isolation, and normally not have a problem. But to completely avoid the batteries pulling from each other when the vehicle is not running, they need to be the same type AND from the same batch.

 

someone on here has a seriously nice multi batt set up... he had a winch and other stuff but the wiring was clean

 

I wish i knew who it was. Im kinda stumped on what/how to set it up.

 

Do you have a battery choice? or maybe point me in a direction where i can get 2 good batteries for the buck.

A Relay and an Isolator are the same thing in this case. You lose a hair of voltage with either.
An isolator is good for when you want to run your electronics with the vehicle off, so as to not drain the starting battery.

 

i recommend yellow top duralast batteries from Autozone... maybe b/c i worked there but they come with an 8 year warranty, with 3 of those free replacement and the other 5 prorated

i think it was awsumdc but i'm not too sure, i think i remember seeing it on his build awhile back, he pretty much redid 75% of his taco, its pretty sick

 

I will be installing a second battery into my Tacoma within a few months. Recently I started researching the different types of isolators that are on the market. I came across an interesting product from Cole Hersee called "Smart Battery Isolator." It's not for everyone, but I plan on using DC electronics for extended periods of time and do not want to put a load on my starting battery. Anyways, I can't vouch for the product as I haven't used it yet, but it does look very interesting.
