Nice design. But not something i would want. To many features i would more than likely forget about. Plus i like having more of a 20 degree bag. Even in my old Cats Meow i never really got hot enough to need the "stick your foot out the bottom" feature unless it was hot enough that im not really in the bag anyways. The arm sleeves just seem silly to me. I dunno when i would actually use that sort of bag i just bring a blanket it instead.

Still always like seeing new and different products!

I never thought finding a pack for canyoneering that won't break the bank would be so difficult

Its been 10 years since i was there but i loved the Southern Germany and Northern Switzerland areas. I went as an exchange student. Santis in Switzerland is quite the hike and well worth it to get to the top. We hiked up and rode the tram down. Hiking up really shows you what hiking is like over there. Trails are just carved right into the hillside and there was decent exposure with no real safety. Plus half way up there was a little hut that had snacks and beer :) As for Germany i was only in the towns (Tuttlinngen, a bit of Stuttgardt, and Munich) and they are great to explore.

Hostels are the way to go if not camping. 10 bucks or so a night and still pretty secure.

Stuff and things that make it better.
Backpacking in Europe...best year of my life.

What you need is a canvas high denier thread count pack. Screw all that light weight high priced stuff, your pack is going to be used and abused. My pack was dragged on the tarmac more than once and only suffered small burn holes. The trade off in weight is totally worth it.

I used a Rei Canvas pack from the late 90's, positive they don't sell them anymore but you should be able to pick one up on CL for pretty cheap. In fact, I think I might still have it...pm me if your interested and I'll go look for it.

When you're backpacking how hard do you guys try to keep your stuff clean?

I always use a ground sheet under my sleeping pad or bivy and try not to set anything where it will get mud or that awesome az dust all over it.

I don't backpack much anymore. But I think it's good to keep your stuff clean. Not just because it's more to carry around but because it keeps you warmer and it helps with the wear. Plus, if you're clean getting into your bag, it feels all that much nicer;)

I just wanted to make sure I'm not crazy. There are certain times when it's kinda pointless but on a "simple" backpacking trip keeping stuff clean really isn't that difficult

This is why I don't worry about weight. I need the packs I can toss in the dirt or in some rocks for years and have them hold up. I am just rough on my things...even when trying to be careful. There is a reason I don't own a single white shirt :p.
