My taco needs tires and I'm looking to get them for around $300 or so - I'm not sure how viable that is.

taco is an 01' pre runner, 2cl. I don't need anything fancy or for off-roading. Just a reliable tire for daily driving. Wheels and lift/suspension are stock.

I've heard of people buying tires online and having them shipped to a shop to be installed. Do you advise that? Or should I look locally for a shop/dealer to buy the tires from and get the install?

    Thanks.

Discount tires direct = great service & prices & free shipping. I don't have a Discount Tire retail place close, or I'd just go there. Mounting & balancing was about $80 the last time I had the dealer do it. A tire store may be cheaper for that.

Discount tire always has the best prices where I'm at. I'll shop around local tire shops, give discount a call to see what they're price will be and then call some of the local shops again to see if they'll beat that price. Generally nobody can come close to discount.

Look for the best price online. Go into Americas Tire/ Discount tire and have them price match.

That's what i always do, to get the best pricing

Discount tire is America's tire out in the Western US....

But, not wanting to burst your $300 bubble, but it is going to cost a bit more than $300 to get four new skins on your ride...

Realistically, It is going to cost you more like $500 for the least expensive option, and you may not like them....tires maybe $400, CA tax @8% or more (not sure what CA sales tax is now), mounting and balancing about another $80, Federal disposal fee and taxes, do the math....

They are the best place to go, as far as I am concerned...

Wait for sales. I bought my Goodyear Duratracs for about $650 for all 4 from Discount Tire Direct thru Ebay with a $200 coupon.

    I don't think could get 4 tires for $300.

I'm sure it did not. There was an online promo through discount tire direct recently. You got $100 off an order over $400. Hans there, bought 2 sets of 2 tires (for a total of 4) and got $100 off each set of 2.

Picked up 2 tires from that promo myself.

Now looking for 2 more. Can't find a really awesome deal like that anywhere currently however.

I'm on the fence about ordering tires right now. On one hand Discount tire has a good price on Duratracs and Goodyear is running a promotion until the end of the month. But... I'm wondering if a better sale or coupon will pop up later.

I still have plenty of tread on my stock rugged trails but damnit I want some better tires!

There's been a promotion or rebates running on the duratracs since before I bought mine about a year and a half ago.

Like others said, I don't think you're going to be able to get 4 new tires installed for under $600, at least not anything quality. I'd look around at some local tire shops and see if they have any deals for tires you like, sometimes that's less than buying online and having a shop install.

A month or so ago I got 4 open country II's installed for about $700 from a local place that had a "buy 3 get 1 free" deal.

Just remember whatever you get, if you go cheap you'll likely need to replace them a lot sooner than some other choices, so it might be worth it to save up for something higher priced but also higher quality.

Yea. You can find the Duratracs for about 170 a piece for 265/75r16. But, once you count in mount, balance, road hazard, and tax you're going to be looking at over $900.

That's where I'm at now. I'm thinking I'm going to go with Walmart's Goodyear Authority. Great reviews and at $800. That includes mount, balance, road hazard, and tax.

Everyone says that it's a lesser tire. From what I've read Walmart teamed up with Goodyear to make a tire and bought the mold. So it's made by Goodyear to goodyear specs, but the mold is owned by Walmart. Good business move if you think about it. You have to go to Walmart to get them. While you're there, might as well get an oil change, some cheetos, couple fishing lures, a pillow, and toothpaste.

About 3 years ago I got a set of Goodyear Wranglers in 235 for my 1st gen for $350 otd from a local shop. I knew I was going to trade it soon and didn't want to spend a lot on tires. It can be done. They seemed to be pretty good tires.
