Hey guys was just wondering if there were anyone who has the pro comp 3" lift who only wheels occasionally and what your honest opinion of the set up was. Some people think it's crap but most of those guys are the hard core off road warriors. I want to lift for mainly aesthetics but I will occasionally wheel. These expensive set ups just seem like overkill for what I need. I guess if I get raked over the coals for asking and not searching so be it lol.

    Thx in advance.

for what your gonna use it for, theres nothing wrong in my opinion with pro comp. ive heard there coils can be really stiff tho, that's about all I know.

Cooper Discover STT tires 285/70/R17 (33s) Procomp 7032 matte black wheels 17x9 -6 offset. Front lift: Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Shocks set at 0. OME 885x coils. Rear lift: Bilstein 5100 shocks. 1.5 inch 3 leaf progressive. I still have stock UCAs but plan on getting aftermarket ones later. I ordered the shocks and coils from headstrong offroad and the 1.5 inch 3 leaf progressive from Wheelers Offroad. 50" Radius Light bar (From Sidetracked Offroad) Mounts from Relentless Fabrication.
I was stock in the same boat this past month on deciding what 3 inch lift I wanna go with. I was going to do the OME 3 inch lift just because a large majority of people recommended it for quality and price. Well after I was like why should I spend 800-900 dollars on a lift when it's more for looks then off-roading. I turned to the 3 inch procomp lift just because it was rather cheap! I did research on this lift just to see what people had to say about it. I came across many reviews of people not liking it and people not having complaints at all. I had to keep in mind who was writing the reviews though because like you said many people do off-roading. A few people who bought the pro comp for mainly for looks regret getting it because it is a very stiff lift. They recommended that if your gonna buy a lift kit do it right the first time! I took that into consideration and started searching around more. Bilstein was my next step just because it was a highly recommend lift as well. So this is what I put together for myself. Bilstein 5100 Front Adjustable shocks set at 0, Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, OME 885 coils, wheelers 1.5 progressive 3 leaf, and 1/4 spacer for drivers side lean. Many people run this setup and get a good 2.5 to 3 inches. I will also be running 285/70/R17 tires and I've heard minor trimming needs to be done especially since it will be 98% for looks. I'm going to be ordering this setup from Headstrong Offroad who has already has this lift setup put it together. I will leave the link at the bottom to everything! (You have the options on which springs you wanna choose from 884x, 885x, 886x, or ebiach coils). You also have the option for new UCAs which I did not check off because it brought the price up and many people say you don't need them right away. (I will get new ones down the road eventually). I did check off to get it assembled because that's a fairly cheap price and it will need it will need to be done anyways. Total price + shipping to me =$640. For the wheelers 1.5 progressive 3 leaf I paid $170 total. Now you don't have to buy the 3 leaf progressive but 99% of the people recommend that over doing the 2 AAL because of future sagging in the rear. In the HeadStrong Bilstein package they offer the Darkar 2 AAL. I called them and had them take that out so the price went down on the lift package. I know this is lengthy, but I've been stuck in the same boat so I figured I'd give my opinion!

bro that helps a ton!! thank you. overall its just more knowledge floating around in my head though. haha so many options. I like that set up but I would want to set the billys at 2.25. don't know if I can get away with that though.

You wouldn't want to run the Bilstein front shocks at 2.25 with the OME 885 coils. The OME coils will give you 2.5 inches of lift up front with Bilsteins set at 0. Thats the setup I've researched, but I've come across other who don't get the OME coils and just use there stock ones with the bilstein shocks. Then you can set the Bilsteins to any height you'd like. I've read though if your stock coils are pretty worn out its not a good idea to to max out on the Bilstein adjustables from what I understand. For me I want everything to be brand new and fresh which is why I'm taking that route.

So what setting would give you 3" of lift total? 1.75? And is this setup going to keep your stance level or will you rake abit? Are you going to get a diff drop kit? And you're not concerned at all about leaving the stock uca's? Won't your 33"s rub on them

Well from what I've read from other users most get 2.5 inches of lift, but I've seen others say they've gotten 3 inches of lift. I'm not sure if the people getting 3 inches of lift are adding a top plate spacer. The Bilsteins set at 0 with 885 coils and progressive 3 leaf is going to sit pretty much dead level front to back. I'm not going to be buying the diff drop kit because 99% of the people say its useless. As far as UCAs go I'm not to concerned because theres been a ton of mixed reviews on wether you should replace them or not. Some say you don't need and some say you do. Some say there alignment isn't perfect with stock ones and some say theres aligned perfectly. Eventually I will replace them once I have the money, but for now I think I will be okay. On the phone I spoke with some people about the 33s rubbing and they said I should be okay. If I had planned to do a lot of off-roading I'd probably rub on them. Once again this is another thing people were saying on the forums. Some people have rubbing issues and some don't. If I do encounter rubbing issues I will probably purchase some wheel spacers to fix the problem. I've done a ton of research on everything just because I want everything to be perfect for mine! I'm just sharing what I've read and found. :D

My tires and wheels should be here this weekend. Then next week the Wheelers progressive 3 leaf should be here. Then I just have to purchase my shocks and coils. After I get everything installed I will definitely be writing a review and how everything works with my setup!

I missed your question about the 1.75. Many people don't recommend going above the 0 on the Bilsteins with the OME coils. Although some do go up to .85, but its not recommend. Here's a thread that might help you with that http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/217465-ome-885s-5100s-85-a.html

Hey man it got everything on finally!

Everything fits perfect! No rubbing at all except when I turn very sharp, but it's nothing major. Also I have no vibrating issues and I'm still running stock UCAs and everything is okay. I still plan to upgrade them in the near future. Finally got my lift, tires and wheels put on!

I had the pro comp lift on for about a year and did not like it at all...really really really stiff. I realize it's a truck and supposed to ride like one but dude I just about chipped a tooth on the thing. The front spring rate on the pro comp is 760lbs. Dude you could jump up and down on the front bumper and the thing would not budge. Right now I am running King's, with a 700 lbs king spring, arb bumper and winch. Dude with the king 700lb coils, ARB and winch they only settled about a half an inch. You could only imagine what a 760lb coil with stock bumper would be like. Don't get me wrong though. If you want a true 3" lift and are on a really tight budget it's not bad. Also they rust real bad too, at least mine started too. Just be careful because you may end up scrapping it like I did..It was a lesson learned. I usually only wheel 1 or 2 times a year. It's my DD

If you're looking to get Billies, get the Eibach coils. If you want 885 coils, get the OME shocks. Doesn't make sense to mix and match when the necessary hardware exists and will work without a problem.

I came across a thread where a guy bought 885 coils on billies and now has an ARB bumper and winch and needs to buy OME coils and shocks. Could have avoided this by getting the OME shocks to begin with..

Just sharing other people's stories and giving my .02 no offense to the OP
