I think he was asking if Nitrogen users remove all of the "normal" air from the tires before filling with Nitrogen. And when wheeling, do you just air back up with the atmosheric mix and then void the tires and refill with Nitrogen.
    :notsure:

I'll admit to ignorance on this subject, but I have to say I'm skeptical. My thoughts are that aircraft tire pressure would be affected to a greater degree by altitude than temperature. I think that the pressure in a tire is a function of it's pressure relative to surrounding atmospheric pressure and that as an aircraft climbed, the altitude would cause the pressure inside to rise as the atmospheric pressure decreased regardless of which gas the tire was filled with. The colder temperature at altitude should cause the gas pressure in the tire to decrease somewhat. This would have a partial cancelling affect on the increase in pressure. I also think that any aircraft tire that could possibly burst due to over pressurization at altitude would be unlikely to survive an aircraft landing.

My previous comment about pulling a vacuum had to do with the fact that regular atmosphere is largely comprised of nitrogen and that any advantages that there may possibly be to nitrogen, at least in a car tire are all negated unless you somehow managed to remove ALL of the regular air (think collapsing the tire completely on the rim) before filling with pure nitrogen. Otherwise, all you have accomplished is to raise the percentage of nitrogen in your tire a little bit.

    Snake oil.

I'm also wondering about the taking all oxygen out of the tires. I worked with nitrogen in the army and I don't think tires would benefit from it at all, it really only doesn't hold moisture and is a bit thicker then oxygen. I wouldn't waste my money on it.

I think you're both missing the primary aspect here: free

While the documented benefits may not be life altering it's free so if you get even minimal gains it's well worth the ROI. You will have less fluctuation in tire pressure due to temperature changes and other factors. Not sure about the validity of other sales points but that alone is worth the price of admission (again: free) to me.

I also think people are over thinking it. When you go to a shop they pull your valve stem to release all air pressure. There's still air in your tire just due to the void left by the cavity. This 'air' is made up of somewhere in the 70-80% nitrogen already depending on other factors. All this does is get the nitrogen content higher which helps the aforementioned aspects to some degree.

I've never paid for nitrogen and wouldn't recommend doing so but for free... there's really no disadvantages.

Haha well I guess nobody realized they were going to just hand it out. It was for a first gen and they kept drawing second gen tickets. So they told everyone with a first gen to raise their hand and then who wants it? Everyone but me put their hand down lol the second gens really wanted the other one lol. It was before most people knew me and they were like "hey you don't have a first gen!" Lol

I would have taken it but I already had one :p

I do enjoy the recovery kit that I won though, happy I ended up with that.

I did hear this year that the's a ton of raffle items, and hopefully it goes smoother than last year with no bed rack incidents.

Wish I could come, bummer that it's on the same weekend as my long-scheduled adventure ride around Dinosaur National Monument.

I must admit that I missed the free part. But I wouldn't run it in my offroad tires just cause I wouldn't want to air them back up with a bottle I had to buy.
But if it doesn't hurt and it's free then maybe give it a try?

You don't HAVE to fill them from a thank. Just fill them with air the way you normally would now just like if you had a low tire on the side of the road. Put air in them. Get down the road. Next time you're near the tire place that does free Nitrogen get them filled again. Again, I think people are needlessly over-complicating this issue.

X2 Tires have been filled with regular atmospheric gas mixture for a long time. Nitrogen has been used for a long while too and while there are proven advantages, I doubt that many tires are designed and recommended to be used with N only. Use what you want, and if you can get free N somewhere, what is there to lose?

Now how many of you people are going to go up to WY for the trip at the end of July? How about my I-can't-go-to-rock-therapy-so-I'm-gonna-go-June-12-16th Trip?

Anyone know a good flower shop in Denver? Gotta send some flowers for my gf's graduation BBQ. She finished her degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Women's Study's. Sucks I couldn't go to her graduation, my best friend gets married next month and I didn't have enough leave time for both :(

Watch out looking for flower shops is Denver these days, you could end up sending a bag of MaryJWanna to your lady around all of her criminal justice feminist friends.
