Can someone explain this to me? Was in my parking lot at work.

Lee , I just realized a Lincoln locker was a welded up spider lol wow. Why don't you just get a mini spool when you regear?

 

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that welded up spiders are stronger than a mini-spool. With a mini-spool all the force is centered on the pin and I've heard that these clam-shell carriers are weak. With the welded up spiders, the force is more distributed and the welds themselves provide more material to strengthen the entire structure. Any engineer-types out there want to poke holes in my logic?

Now, a full spool would be a stronger way to go if you could find one for this application, but I think even if you could, it'd only be a little cheaper than going with a Detroit. This is only if you plan on regearing though. In my case, I wasn't regearing so going to a full spool or a Detroit would have added to the expense--since I have no idea how to go about setting up the gears in a clamshell diff myself. It was just more cost effective for me to have the spiders welded.

 

I ended up being released around 230 along with all the other people they never called. What a waste of a day

Life is going well, had a crazy busy year between work, school, and SAE but things have calmed down for the summer now. I still have a year left of school. What's been going on with you? Settled in Texas for a while?
