Can't help you much there.... that's a tough call. I'm personally struggling with this too and I'm thinking something like BFG AT or Duratrac. I don't do serious wheeling with this rig so I want it to look and be aggressive when it needs to be, but it'll never need an MT while my jeep is still kicking

EDIT: I see they don't really have many tires on tirerack in the 255/85/16 size.... hmm, definitely going to be rethinking this one.

Cooper ST Maxx. A/T tire in that size.

yeah they really don't and if they do its a M/T. BFG AT or Duratrac, and this guy says Cooper ST Maxx.

Is an All Terrain what I need? What is really the use of A/T? Is it unwise to get an A/T if you won't be going through much snow or dirt?

Also, what load range do I need for a DD? I heard one TW member say passenger tires (not sure what load that is, I think passenger is a speed rating) were best for MPG.

Passenger tires are going to be lighter so you will get better mileage around town and have slightly better braking since the lighter tire will have less momentum. The braking may not be noticable though:notsure: Passenger tires will last longer than M/T's for sure. Not sure about A/T's.

My Tacoma had Michelin LTX passenger tires on it when I bought it.

I'm not even sure if 255's come in something other than E?

The old Cooper ST was available in D rating. Their replacement ST Max is E rated.

How does a higher load rate affect the truck?

Ride, MPG, handling, etc? What's the difference? I am thinking less MPG.

Less mpg and not as stiff. Higher rating = heavier tire. Its not a huge difference in mpg. Why get this size tire if your so concerned about mpg and highway driving?

Because the truck came with 265/50R20s and I just don't like them and they really won't look good after I lift it 2 inches over stock. (~4 inches over current)

Just want something big enough to accomodate the lift, that is why I am getting 255s in the first place, skinnier tire shouldn't cause so much drag. I am not overly concerned with MPG, I just don't want to lose more than I have to. Why get a mud tire when I won't use it? If I find out that a smaller tire size looks good with 2" of lift I will choose that.

I would look into some 265/75R16's. Almost unlimited options in that size and it's not much smaller than a 255/85R16.

Sigh, okay. You are probably right. Well since there are many more options in that area, does anyone know of an aggressive looking street/highway tire? I love the look of M/Ts but there's no way I would buy them just for looks, so I just want an actual street tire that looks good.

I have a set of Dura-Trac in 265/75R16 on 16x8" wheels, truck has ICON suspension for a 2" lift. These look good. Also have Cooper ST in 255/85R16. The Cooper ST is quieter on the highway and about 1.5" taller tire. But personally I do not like the 255/85 on a 8" wide rim. They look better on a stock 7" wide wheel in my opinion. Also the stock wheel gives me less rubbing. I have the 1st gen Tacoma alloy wheels (off a 2002) on my 2012 for the "tall & skinny" tires.

Holy shit, thank you SO much, people just need to buy a economy car(what I'm gonna do when i graduate) rather than complain about mpgs...

How does the rim width affect the look? Also, instead of 265/75/16, what about 255/80/16? I assume still not many options for those. That size is the same height as 265/75/16.

    Thanks
You should find someone that complains and tell them that, I don't know why you think I am complaining.
