Pop N Lock Which One?

I'm fixing to pull the trigger on a Back Up camera for my 2014 Tacoma

Checked and seems it's all good to go as far as wiring:}

My question/dilemma is do I buy the Pop N Lock unit camera installed with separate keys to unlock the tailgate or the Pop N lock unit that allows me to simply use my original Toyota Key to unlock the tailgate?

Does anyone have a preference of which they like or wish they had bought instead?

Hummmm...Nobody has bought one with a back up camera installed lol

 

Just yesterday I bought the one that uses the original Toyota key. I figured why carry around an extra key, I got plenty already. Hope your install goes well! I'm waiting for mine in the mail.

 

I did the basic kit and don't like it very much. Eventually I'll redo it and get the one that will use the ignition key and work with the remote locks.

PL8540. Seems to be an easy install, can use Ign Key or open with fob.

Got the original keyed one when I bought my truck three years ago. I'll buy the one that uses the ignition key if I get a new truck. Hopefully by then the Tacomas will come with one from the factory.

 

I bought and installed the

$94 PL5400 Black Manual Tailgate Lock with Bolt Codeable Technology for Toyota Tacoma

PL5400 and it's alright. Takes very little key action to lock the tailgate and the handle feels flimsy to me. I kept the stock tailgate handle in the event I want to switch back.

Having the Extang Trifecta Signature Series cover with the PL5400 does make item I may have in my truck bed a bit more secure.

 

Yeah I agree the handle feels loose and not very high quality. I don't imagine it will break easily, just crappie fit that makes it jiggle easily

I just had Capit install a tailgate lock that works off the remote, works great and now the box with BakFlip tonneau is secured for the honest types anyways.

 

I have the

$105 PL8521 Pop & Lock – Power Tailgate Lock for Toyota Tacoma, Fits Models 2005 to 2015 (PL8521)

PL8521 and am really happy with it. It's the power one, with no key hole. I like being able to use the factory handle, and I have it unlock just like the passenger door with the fob.

 

I went with the electric pop-a-lock. It did not have any effect on my factory back up camera. Hooked it into the drivers side rear passenger door lock wiring. Works great.

 

Is this the one that works with your key fob? I like NOT having to deal with an extra key. Only issue would be if you want to get in the bed and forget (or too lazy) to get you key.
