Squeek when starting up only for about 1 mile?

Question for you guys.... I have about 30k miles on my truck and over the past couple of weeks I noticed the first time I start my truck for the day I'll get a continuous "chirp/squeek" coming from the front of the truck. When I put it in 'Drive' then noise is still there but at a different speed and more subtle. The noise goes away after about a mile and doesn't come back until the next day. Any ideas what this could be? Seems odd for only 30k to be replacing anything like this, but I was told by the dealer to change my spark plugs now too (which I still haven't done...) so maybe it's time for some maintenance. If I can DIY, then even better.

 

Where's the sound coming from? Is it coming from thru the vents from the blower motor? T-SB-0145-11 might fix it if you're still within the 3yr/36k (use this link if you wanna fix the blower yourself)

 

It's probably the compressor pulley. Is it on the driver side? My 08 with 30k miles on it did the same thing your talking about.

 

The sound is definitely coming from under the hood. I just had the "chirp" fix on my AC fan inside the cab replaced and this is a totally different sound. Hard to tell where exactly it is under the hood. It's pretty loud once I pop the hood. Any other way to tell?

 

You could remove the serpentine belt and run the truck while its cold to see if the noise is still there . This eliminates all the rotating parts on the front of the engine .
If you do try this , dont run the truck for a long period of time as the water pump wouldnt be turning . Most garages do this for diagnostic purposes when noises are difficult to find . When the belt is removed , turn the pulleys by hand feeling for tight spots in the bearings . At the same time , have a good look at the serpentine belt and double check to make sure all the pulleys are riding true .

 

Thanks for the tips. Does it help that it squeeks more when it's humid out or has rained? Still only for the first mile or so driven for that day.

 

Sounds like the idler pulleys my 2009 does it everytime it rains.
