Has anyone ever greased the fitting on the driveshaft ? I found them by accident while crawling around under there,it's a 2012 4X4 Taco. After 3 yrs and 40k I would have the dealer would be greasing them during my service visits. Maybe I am expecting to much of them.

I grease mine whenever I change the oil. It is part of the scheduled maintenance plan. They are really easy to take care of.

Thats why most people will service their own vehicle. Peace of mind that its done and done right. I wouldnt take my truck to the stealership unless Theres no other way to get it fixed.....like last resort. Same here... every oil change , they get greased. Mine is 2011 4wd has 5 grease fittings. Seems like over the years service has gone down hill as the cost per hour has gone up.

Rofl at the thought of him being the first person in history ever to notice a grease fitting on the driveshaft, and to start a separate thread on his "discovery" :p

I greased them after the 6 month free service, which included oil and filter and tire rotation. Greasing the u-joints was not included.

Yeah, just like Diff & trans gear oil changes, the dealer would probably want way too much money....

x2. Every oil change or every time the truck hits deep water and/or mud. Grease helps force all that crap out and keep it out.

I've just been getting sealed U-joints and replacing them every 50K. They seem to be stronger (spicer brand) than the greasable type, and they are better sealed. Both wear out and require replacement anyway...
