From reading the posted sticky on the LOC Audio Control LC6 it seems that you will get "hiss" as a by product. Also my stock Entune Audio HU could not be putting out more than 8 watts per channel. I can crank it full volume and my newly installed JBL GTO's still sound sweet and not too loud or distorted. I want to go 5 channel with an amp so I can easily hook up a sub behind the rear seat once I have made my box and am ready to roll.

Ok, perhaps I'm out of my league, but I did say I would reply when my speakers arrived. (See post #2 this thread). I have a 2005 Pre-runner double cab.

Speakers (again) are not "kick ass" speakers, but they are better than factory by far.

Installing them was a bit challenging, only because I did not realize that I needed speaker mounts. Since nobody in my little town sells speaker mounts, (even Best Buy didn't have the 6x9 mounts) I decided to simply destroy the existing speakers & use the plastic "housing" as speaker mounts. While this added more work to my task, it turned out pretty good! Did take some engineering though. Also, since my front door has the tweeter already, I decided to flush mount the tweeters that came with the speakers into the rear doors.

After it was all said & done, looks great, & sounds a LOT better than it originally did. So if your looking for "simple", a pair of decent 6x9's & a pair of 6.5's with speaker mounts will do you just fine. However, if your looking for some "punch" with your tunes, take the other posts advice

PMD - any time you go from a speaker level input to an RCA you will have noise, it is not because of the LC6i.

Anytime you replace a factory speaker with an aftermarket speaker you will need to make or buy a speaker adapter.

DrFunker, I forgot to mention... If you want to go even higher quality stuff there is much, much more we can talk about. Fun brands to get into like brax, phoenix gold elite series, tru technologies... Processors like the Arc Audio PS8, Rockford Fosgate 360.Three (I have this one), Audison bit one... And top end speakers like Hybrid Audio Legatia series, Morel, A/D/S, Focal Utopia, Rainbow, and so much more...

For research and informative purposes I am going to try and record some in cab sound clips from my setup to post here and in my build thread (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-builds/333130-codename-herschel-tacoma.html)

I think this will help with your decisions. I really wish I had a before and after sound clip but Im NOT ever going back to stock unless I sell the truck at which point I may pull the equipment and put the stock back in. Thats another thing, I would recommend keeping all your stock equipment in the event that you sell your truck or get tired of it possibly (lol like thatll happen :D)

Update: The JL W3V3-4 8" I was talking about, I have now purchased one for myself, only spent $209 at a local retailer :D Best price I could find on it, even better than Amazon

Good lord thats far to much money for a system. The OP wants to upgrade not break the bank. My whole setup is about $800 and thats after speakers and the new JL W3 8. Theres no need to break the bank when it comes to car audio, just imo. Not many people are going for competition audio sound and most vehicles dont need that quality sound anyways unless specifically designed for competition, and Tacomas are NOT designed for car audio by far. Just something to consider, breaking the bank on audio imo is not needed.

Apologies, the quoted comment was not for the OP but still its a little much for a Tacoma.

True that. They're windy and loud. I paid about $600 for my setup just to have average sound. You still have to crank it on the highway to hear it well over the road & wind noise. Short of completely lining the thing with sound material, it's still not a great audio experience.

I do agree they tend to have alot of road noise but with a sub, you wont really hear the road noise anyways lol :D Ive heard different setups in Tacomas, other vehicles as well as a ridiculously expensive XB overhaul, but then again were reaching competition status with the XB. In all honesty the $ for sound really comes down to the owner's own ears. If it sounds good to the owner it really doesnt matter how much you paid for it. Im not saying there arent better options, but a quality sound is not that expensive if the setup is right. I guess its more of a "Looking at the glass half full" idea

    Unknow
    Many
IM currently working on presenting a Shok distribution with a request for packing for :
    Mids - 2 or 3 way comps
    4 channel amp
    mid amp
sub/subs that fit in the tacoma.

IF anyone wants to take a look at a catalog or anything let me know.
Pricing would range and something for everyone.

Not making this a sales pitch just simply the value for money CANNOt be beat.

My apologies...I mean 700/5. The 500/5 is an older model and is HUGE.

The 700/5 is much much smaller and that is what I am currently running.

BehindUranus - clearly some have a different idea of what good sound is. The prices of the systems listed in that post are all reasonable and will sound significantly better than 80+% of the systems out there. Now if you want to start talking about going top end gear that is competition quality then those prices are all less than a good set of component speakers. Tacoma's actually don't have as much road noise as you think when properly sound dampened. I drive an hour each way to work at highway speeds and I have a nicer system than anything I recommended. Music is life

Maybe the new Tacos have less road noise but I can promise you, every 1st gen Ive ever been in is windy and has alot more road noise than say that of a F-150 or a Ram.

As for differences in audio opinions, it really comes down to the "sound" that I hear and the "sound" that you hear, were talking about two different things. Your ears are different than mine as well as any other person. It also depends on the genre of music you enjoy. One sound/song can sound completely different to two different people. That being said my system is tuned for myself, to you it may not sound good and thats okay but I was just offering an opinion.
