    Hey everybody,

I was looking to get a ladder rack for my truck and have been having a hard time finding anything that works with the topper. Yes i have searched the forum and it seems like with our composite beds not many racks exist that will also work with a topper. Below is a link of a rack i found that states universal fit and will work with the topper. Thoughts.

The origins of my problem is figuring out how to mount my Mount Rainier RTT on top of the truck. I have a snugtop topper and per them it will only hold 200lb so the RTT with people inside will not work. I like the ideas of the bedrack that everyone uses but i live where i need a topper and can not compromise the weather proofing a topper offers so a bed rack will not work.

Any other ideas would be appreciated. I have thought about mounting the RTT over the cab but would prefer to find a rack over the topper so I can put a cargo basket over the cab for general use.

    Thanks for the input.

This might work? It's the same rack that Softopper sells as compatible with their product.

I have a RackIt Series 3000 rack, mounted over my Leer 180CC shell, that I use for ladders and materials. Mine is the Aluminum model, so the rack only weighs about 85 pounds, plus mounting hardware. Not sure if they will make a custom rack, but might be worth giving them a shout.

I believe the 200-lbs limit is a dynamic load rating (when traveling) due to center of gravity limitations and the force of acceleration on the shell when hitting bumps, etc.. The static load should be quite a bit greater. (600 - 800 lbs range, I'd guess)

Anyway i could figure this out with out just trying it and seeing what happens. I really don't want to break/crack my topper especially if i am out camping. The 200 lbs weight limit did seem a little low for the topper while static.

I went with the SnugPro which came with a KargoMaster ladder rack and beefed top supports 500lbs. I had to modify the rack a little to get my mt shasta to open up.

This may be painfully obvious, but all of these load ratings assume that the load is evenly distributed over the rack. Which in the real world never happens. So you could be well under the max load for the shell, but still damage it if the load was mostly on one side.

That is correct. I load my tent evenly on the load bars which are built into the reinforced snugpro cap. The bars themselves are huge, at least 2 1/2". But it definetly states on the rack itself 500 lbs evenly distributed! I don't carry anything else on the rack either.
