Nice set up man! So I picked up a2014 DCSB V6 and am looking at putting a SC on it. What kind of mileage are you getting, and what was the approximate cost after everything was installed. Thanks again for the pics, nice looking set up.

Mileage depends on time of year. In the summer I'm around 17-18, but winter gas gives me 15-16 on average.

I did the install with some friends, so it was only cost for the parts, which was about $350 if I remember correctly. Ram Air scoop was extra. Recently, I upgraded to the Volant PowerCore filter with pre-filter screen, purchased from Summit Racing, at the following links:

I did not purchase (nor know about) the Volant throttle body spacer....so no opinion here. You'll find opinions galore on throttle body spacers though if you do a search.

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
Does this setup block the air inlet coming from the fender and use only that ram tube? This might be a cool setuf for guys going to 35's on 3" lifts where we loose the fender liners.

I guess you could cap it yourself. On my volant it pulls air from both the ram scoop and the fender.

I love it on my TRD supercharged truck. My butt dyno firmly believes there is a difference in acceleration with this intake over a stock intake when mates to my supercharger. I think on a stock naturally aspirated truck any CAI is more for show than go.

I'm installing mine as I type and everything seems OK. The instructions could be better and they conveniently left out the elbow for the air pump. I called up Volant and they shipped me one out no charge though they wouldn't overnight it even though I offered to pay ???. As mentioned earlier (i think) that 5/8 or 3/4" hose is to short so I am going to buy a really long piece so maybe I won't need that elbow but I guess I could get a PVC or ABS one and it should work just the same. I am having one hell of a time getting the filter on. I got the oval one not the cone. I gonna try a little dish soap next. I am disappointed though at the very small intake space at the core support maybe 1/4" at best.

Edit: While at the part store I found an elbow and got a long piece of 3/4" and you also need to get about a foot of 1/4" that ties into the tube that runs into the TB.

What does the scoop look like from head on? Does it sit behind the grill?

It sits on top of the core support just below the hood. You can't even see it. You might have a 1/4" of air gap if you're lucky which was very disappointing to me. However I just (like 10 min ago) finished my install and I live at the top of a very long steep road which before the Volant was a 2nd gear pull, now I can shift to 3rd and actually accelerate. So just in the very little driving I've done it seems to have some influence. I also was a sucker and bought the TB spacer (was only $30). I like the whistle it adds hee hee. I will have to admit after 45mins of screwing with actual air filter trying to get it on I took it down to a buddy of mine with a shop at the foot of the mountain and of course he had it on in 2 mins. whatever, it's on. Is it worth the $400? If you're not SC, probably not but I hope to be soon. It's not the actual cost of the SC, it's the fact you must now always run premium fuel (correct?).

If you're inferring that by running the intake on a S/C somehow effects what octane of fuel you run, it doesn't. When you have a S/C you must run +91 octane or you will likely damage you engine. Without the supercharger your gas should be +87 and you should be fine, unless you have some of the pinging issues common to the 4.0 L. You could tune your engine to run on a certain octane, but then you need a lot more mods than a cold air intake to make everything cost effective.

The reason I believe that all CAI's have very minimal effects on a N/A engine is that the stock air box is very well designed for the Tacoma. It doesn't hamper flow very much at all. Once you go up to a S/C, however, you are drawing a lot more air through the intake than the stock was designed for. Then I think aftermarket intakes make more sense.

and I can feel more torque just from the long steep pull to my home. Not much noisier and I hate the core support scoop is less than a 1/4" - very disappointing. BUT next week SC arrival and install!!!! I have an 18" magnaflow that was originally the "Off-Road" v.ersion but I had to add the dump after the rear axle because of the "drone". I WANT ONE OF THOSE COVERS COUPE! Come off the price a little, I just bought a SC for God's sake! (And thanks man for all your help).

This is exactly what im looking for. But my truck build is gear towards offroad. How would this do in water with the ram air? Ive been trying to research all day about CAI's and snorkels with the trd supercharger.

I've driven in pouring rain with the ram air and not one issue. BTW I got the best of both worlds: AFE Stage 2 SI with the Volant Ram Air Scoop
