Hey Boyd, I have a question for you. I'm looking into buying a rec kayak, what's the difference between getting a 10' vs 12' kayak (besides the length lol). Is it mostly to do with weight?

Well, I was going to leave this alone, but I have to comment. In general there are friendly people and unfriendly people in this world. Neither are confined to a specific continent or geographic region. During our 7 yrs living in the UK, we traveled about Europe quite a bit and met some of both, more friendly than unfriendly by my recollection. It can be pricey, but Alaska isn't a cheap place to visit either. No different than traveling around the US really. I wouldn't trade the experiences of the sights, cultures, and good people we have from our 7 yrs there for anything. It was a mind broadening experience for us all. I'd spend my money to take my grandkids to see some of Europe before I'd give it to the damn Mouse.

Just had to throw in my 2 cents FWIW.

Turning radius, speed, and harsh weather capability.

Smaller the yak easier to turn but worse to track strait. Conditions dictate proper yak. In narrow fast rivers my 9' rules. In slow wide windy white cap conditions my 13' rules.

    What's your primary use?

Will be just for day tripping on small lakes, if I hit any rivers, they aren't fast moving and they are wide (I've canoed them before in heavy ass big canoes lol)

Another slow shift for me. :pccoffee: Easy money though ... so I shouldn't complain. You'd think I'd be used to it after 30 yrs ... nature of the military airlift biz ... always been kind of feast or famine.

Basically just waiting to go home now. Did some prep work for missions Saturday night, but will finish them up when we come back. Tend to get bit in the a$$ whenever you go too far too early ... something ends up coming in to be put on the mission so you have to revise everything.

    Whadya up to this weekend?
