I just changed my spark plugs and I removed 3 Densos from the passenger side and THREE NGKs from the drivers side. This is After the dealership serviced the vehicle at 30k miles. I read my old invoice. One of the items on it lists REPLACE SPARK PLUGS (TACOMA, TUNDRA, & 4 RUNNER W/IGR-FE). In the parts list that they billed for, they do not list 6 spark plugs. My pre-paid service booklet lists 'Change spark plugs' at 30,000 miles. I've read both, that the plugs do need changing at 30k and that Toyota has changed it to 60k so they don't need changing at 30k. Opinions? Did the Service manual in 2008 call for the first plug change at 30k miles? I am thinking that they were supposed to do it and choose not to. They were paid to do it according to the pre-paid service through 55k miles. I am wanting to go down to the dealer and demand some type of compensation but need to know FOR SURE. Does a dealership even stock the NGK plugs? I'm guessing not so they can't even say they did the work and just put back Exactly what they removed.
    Thoughts? Thank you. Bill

I don't see what this explains but appreciate the post. I know it comes with the two diff types of plugs, there are a couple of reasons/guesses why. Are you guessing they did do the work at 30k but put back two different types?
My point is I think the cheated/lied back on 30k miles. I don't think they ever changed them. Did the service requirement in 08 call for replacement at 30k or 60k? Thanks for the assistance though. Keep it coming.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that yes, your 2008 service manual calls for 30k replacement, and they probably did not replace them. I'd say move on with your life, it's done, it's gone, change the spark plugs and party on... or MAYBE go ask to have it done per your agreement.

I posted the link just in case you didnt know Toyota uses NGK as well as denso .
I agree that it looks like they were " NOT " replaced at the 30K interval . Did Toyota pull the plugs and determine they didnt need to be replaced at 30k ?
Did they check the gap and say good for another 30 ?

Maybe the tech saw two different types, and put two different types back in.
If you raise enough skunk you might get a free oil change, but I wouldn't recommend pissing off your local service department unless it's a serious matter.

Toyota has a contract with NGK and denso so they split plug usage 50/50 in their motors. Been this way for a long long time, just do some Google searching.

Hmmm, my plug change interval is 100k. I'm at 56k and haven't changed them yet.

I thought from the factory one side is denso and the other side is NGk? At least that's what mine was when I changed them at 30k

Edit saw the second post. Iirc the service guy I bought my plugs from they have me a set of each.

Your 4runner has a different engine then the Tacoma.

The Tacoma still has the ancient 235hp single vvti from 10 years ago along with it copper plugs.

I know, I was wondering if someone would catch that. I've seen a lot of people who believe the engines are the same.

The 2010 4Runners and FJC's use the dual vvt-i 4.0. They are still the 1GR engine but a higher rated HP and torque. These engines use a expensive iridium plug that at oem cost is about $14 a plug.

OP, couple ways to approach it.

You could go back and bring the manual showing plugs should have been replaced, and have them do the job correctly.

You could go in and complain a lot as you do the above.

You can go in and be nice and say, apparently the forgot and as you were giving the truck a bath and look over, you noticed how the bill and manual differed. Have them install the new plugs but pay no extra or just for the parts, no added labor.

But some good plugs, and do it yourself.

Myself, before I went back, I would give a good look over the accomplishment inspection list and find everything else they didn't do. Then decide if I would be going back.

All the best with it. Also, not uncommon what you posted.

30k plugs? I'm at 71 thousand now, and still haven't changed plugs yet.

Way I figure it; the only way not changing plugs at 30k means that if there's an emission related failure down-stream (e.g. o2 sensor failure) your warranty won't cover it. or not changing plugs, and then complaining about a cat failure at 75k (still under 8/80k warranty) means you're scr3wed. but don't know of anyone with this problem.

Beyond that, unless you're doing heavy towing/hauling the plugs are proabably good to 60k.

I would be curious to see the part number on the current plugs. Just to see if they are standard, or if they are a platinum version. I know on my truck I run platinum tips NGK and they last for a longer time. I am a little vague on the OP posting to understand exactly the details.
How many miles do you have on your truck now? I am curious because without an indication I can't tell if you went to replace your plugs because you are at 60k miles now, or you are at say 32k, and planned to change the first set out yourself.

If the plugs are the OEM numbers I listed in my thread, then they weren't changed, if Denso was on one side, and NGK on the other. All the dealers out here use the same Denso plugs when they change them.
