Alright, I’ve come to you to pick your brains. I would like to take my wife and 2 dogs onsomewhat of an adventure. I have beenreading online about OHV trails in the Northern CA area, and thought that maybesome of you could help me out.

We are looking for something moderate; we have a 2011 Tacomawith off road package and all the bells and whistles that you could get fromthe factory. I have taken it on sometrails in Mariposa but nothing too technical.

We would like to be out in the wilderness, and able to campalong the trail or at a campsite along the trail. Anywhere with a lake would be preferable, aswe like to fish and the dogs like to swim.

I know this is a stretch, since we are a little picky! Thanks for any help, and have a greatafternoon!

    +1.

And you can go up the FS roads a bit to Sawmill Lake and Faucherie Lake too.

Awesome. Are there designated camp sites or can you kinda do your own thing? When I go camping, I like to be off the beaten trail.

This is Powell Lake in the Emigrant Wilderness/Stanislaus National Forest, near Pinecrest.

Its about a 3 mile hike from the trailhead parking area (Gianelli Cabin). Getting to the trailhead is easy, just the last 8 miles or so are on gravel/dirt roads. Washboard as hell, but there were 30-40 cars at the top, even a handful of Prius's, and a Miata. I was just up there for a few hours, but if you plan on staying overnight/camping you will need to get a permit.

There are many small lakes in the area, just depends how far you want to hike.
