I am looking at getting a tent for the bed of the truck for camping. I have heard good things about several of them, but I want to see what you guys are using and recommend.

This is what I am looking at getting before the TX-TW meet September 26-27...

Sportz Truck Tent III (Model # 55077)

    What do you guys think???

    Cheers!

    ...guess I should mention...

The only reason that I am not running out and buying one of these right now is because they are $250. Plus I still have to get an air mattress with a pump. I am going through a divorce. So, I am trying not to spend too much money. :D

I remember seeing it at Atlanta Toyota. This was about a year ago. They had a couple in the parts dept. I was considering buying it.

I saw one on TRDParts4u.com 2 years ago, but they no longer carry it. I am guessing that Toyota stopped carrying it in their accessories catalog.

Just get the shortbed one & use the extra space to store your stuff. I don't know why a shortbed tent wouldn't work.

I found this on Tundra solutions, a guy used a regular backpack tent in the back of his Tacoma.

"Actually my 2 person backpacking tent works well in the back of my truck. I have the D-cab w/ short 5 ft bed, and with gate down the tent is still a little long. So I hook tie down straps from the truck bed anchors to the tent end so it only goes to the end of the tail gate. works well and still have a 6.5 foot usable floor as opposed to a 7 ft when on ground. The bed mat (thick non-toyota model) adds a little cushion as well as keeps the tent floor dry and above the water if it rains.
Only thing to consider is a 'step' up to bring along to get in a little easier."

For $120 bucks, I would go for that one as opposed to $219-$239.

The next question is the width. The 05+ have a wider bed...

Not a bad idea. I will put that down as option #1. I plan on ordering something this week. That way I have a tent for the TX meet on the 26th. Of course, my friend in Colorado had another idea if I want to feel like I am sleeping in a coffin...

"just put a sleeping bag under your tonneau cover. The damn thing is already water proof."

That thing is pretty cool, but I don't want to get rid of my Access LE tonneau cover. The tent would only be a temporary shelter for camping trips and meets.

    Googling it now...

Those things are pricey, but I have slept on one before (boy scout camp?). They are a bit out of my price range for now. Definitely something I will look into as I try to lighten my camping gear though. Excellent suggestion!

I got a Bestop Supertop for $200 from a guy. I decided to go that route instead of a tent because I dont have to pack anything up...just leave it all in the bed and go. It doesn't get the best ventilation, but a zip tie and battery powered hanging fan fixed that pretty easily. Plus you can buy screens for it if you want.

Yeah... I really want to keep my tonneau cover as it offers me the most versatility. Thanks though. :)
