    just what i need!

    just bought a house and there is no cold water from any of the faucets. their is hot water but when trying to get cold water it comes out warm, not hot. only single lever faucets in the house are the kitchen sink, and 2 showers... from a quick google search seems like one of these may be the culprit.

    any insight? thanks in advance

    Turn off hot side to your angle stops and turn tubs to cold but dont turn on and check faucets. Or ya could turn off hot water at heater and run the faucets.
    Single handle faucets are prone to mix water when they wear out.

    If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, post up a picture of your water heater and the pipes connecting to it.

    hey guys thanks for the input. i've been busy the last few days getting all the crap moved from one place to the other. fun stuff when it's 100+ outside. lol

    Im a licensed plumbing contractor in the bay area. I think you might have a cross connection somewhere. IMO its either a cartridge in a shower valve/faucet failing and letting water through or they accidentally connected the cold and hot water pipes together. Any clue what type of water piping you have there? Is the piping mostly in the attic?

    great... either of those situations sounds like fun! lol

    not sure on piping. mostly because i haven't had or taken the time to really poke around and look at stuff. it does appear that most the piping is up in the attic.

    One way to find out is to shut everything off.. Literally everything. Take the trims off shower valves and turn the screw stops, Turn all angle stops off, you must turn off every fixture in the house at the water supplies. Then turn one sink on and see if you get cold water. If you don't then turn the angle stops off on that sink and try it one or two other places. If still no cold water then it's a cross connection in the piping. If you get cold water out of one of the fixtures when everything else is off then it's the cartridges.

    possibly missing a check valve where the hot return ties back into the cold before the heater? and holy flex lines batman!

    Yes. That looks like a recirc pump. Can't tell from the picture if theres a check valve to keep the circulated hot water from going back up the cold.
    Can you tell if the pump is working?
