So far, it's easier to find actual users of OME886/OME shocks that have had negative experiences with inadequate damping than 886/5100 users that felt their damping was inadequate or that the shock failed. I've read TONS of 'you can't do that' with regard to 5100/886 combos but no supporting information as to why. Toytec pairs a 620-ish# spring (with the ability to preload) with the 5100. The OME 886 spring is 650#. OME chooses to use the same shock for everything from 520# - 650#. The two things I can think that would make someone say that you can't pair the 5100 with the 886 are: 1. Because someone will want to set the 5100 at 2.5 and jam the 886 in there. or 2. The 5100 is too weak to stand up to that stiff of a spring and will physically fail. I can't find any info that proves the second scenario is actually an issue. (my spring pound information may be incorrect...I was working from memory. I will be happy to correct this information if it's incorrect)

My whole deal with this is that I want the best low maintenance setup for my truck. It's not a $$$ issue and it's not an ultimate performance issue. If I thought OME shocks were the way to go here, I wouldn't be pressing the subject. From what I can find, OME doesn't make a shock that is adequate for the 886 spring and that the 5100 appears to be, in actuality, a viable option with no specific complaints about damping performance with 886 springs like you can easily find with OME shocks. Granted, the 5100/886 combo seems to be much more rare.

So, if anyone can find actual users that broke 5100 shocks because of the 886 springs or were unhappy with the damping of the 5100 with 886 springs, I'd love to know who they are so I can find out if my planned usage matches their actual usage.

I think the problem with " over speed bump goes clank " is that people are fixated on getting 3" of lift and ARB / OME states that the 886 coil is supposed to provide 2" of lift with 200+ lbs of weight up front , lots of people run them with less or no weight which would explain a lot of the topping out issues

Under loading is definitely a possibility. I question whether or not 886 is too heavy for what I plan on adding to my truck... And I've already added quite a bit. The 887 is on my list. I can start with either spring then swap them out depending on where I land and what I prefer. Costly in time and hassle more than money but worth it to get what I want.

I talked to him via email a month or so back. He recommended the 887 but didn't discourage the 886 other than for the possibility of being over sprung for my weight. I don't know what my weight will be so it's open ended. The 887 is intriguing. I'll likely start with the 887 then go to the 886 if necessary.

Did you ask him about pairing the 886's with 5100's ?

BradyT88 jumps his truck with 5100s and 886s  I've ran 5100s in 885s and a few people run 5100s in 886s. I have been running 886s with OME shocks (wheel the piss out of them as well) and hae had 0 issues.

Yes. He didn't have any specific issues with that. The main concern seemed to be with getting the right spring for the weight/use. I wonder if 886's run stiffer than OME's rating?

All good info. Thanks! I'll add BradyT88 to the list of people to bother about this.

I ran 885s with a plate bumper and winch, sagged 3/4" of an inch, added skids and sliders then swapped to 886s. (that was on my 2011) On my 2012 I ran 886s and OME shocks with 0 weight, added everything else afterwards (bumper, skids, winch, sliders) and only came down a little less than 1/2", and the ride is ok by my standards.

I think people don't load them to their weight rating generally

Well Billys, and ill tell you why. I already had them with intentions of running stock coils. Then changed my mind when i realized it would be much better going with after market coils (885x). Then guess what? Decided i wanted a bumper. Got the bumper, dropped my front about 1/2". I have a skid on the way and winch. Future plans were going to coil overs. I only want to run the 886s on the billies so i can get by for a while until i have the money for the coil overs. Didnt want to use any extra money to buy yet another set of front shocks that were going to be taken back off.

I would probably do the same if I was getting c/o's in a couple months.

I'll take dibs on the 886's when you're looking to sell :spy:

I started looking for info on the 887. Its the same spring rate as 885 and 5mm taller. Is 5mm going to solve .5-.75" of sag? Here's my reference page

    http://www.arbusa.com/Uploads/PDF/onlineManualsGuides/OME_Guide_current.pdf

Page 131 or search 2887. Gives all the related spring info

And for the record I had major "toppping out" issues with the 885 5100 combo prior to installing my ARB and winch. IIRC they settled a bit after some miles under them.
