As if you actually KNOW what Toyota will release. You have no facts so stop pretending you know.

Agreed. For all we know they'll discontinue the Tacoma in favor of a car/truck hybrid of the camry ;).

More seriously, we don't even know if the new frontier is coming to north america yet. This could be the time for Nissan to split there truck production similar to how Tacoma/Hilux has split. None of us, well except Chris4x4, have any idea of what is coming in the next few years. The new Chevy has promise on paper. Between that air damn under the bumper and the fact the engines sound car like for power I have a lot of concerns when it comes to using the Colorado off-road. It may be a great car, but it might not be a great truck.

Toyota will likely analyze the new Colorado once it hits the pavement in force and respond with a rational reply if the new truck effects sales numbers. If the diesel is popular there is nothing to say that Toyota won't find a small diesel to stick in the Tacoma. I'm in no panic either way, I want a 3rd gen to come out to drive up the value on my late model 2nd gen. Look at how much guys are getting for 1st gens in good shape, simply because they don't like the refinements for 4x4ing :D.

Haha yes that was a Tundra. Every bogus site does that when talking about a redesign. They will show the Tundra, helix, or that forerunner photoshop thing.

Your first statement is a lot more credible than the last one... How do you know?

Wait, what does Chris4x4 know? And as far as I know Toyota and Nissan are actually the only trucks that DON'T have air dams now... They're all over the place. I don't mind them, seeing as I am an MPG buff (26 ftw) but as long as it looks good. Would need to be either removable or retractable.

As for the value of 2nd gens going up... I think the opposite. When a new model comes out the old one takes a good hit since it is no longer the latest. I see what you mean about people liking 1st gens, but as far as book value I just don't think we could get more.

That truck pictured in your profile gets 26 MPG? If so, how?

He does his own "special" math . Unless he drives down hill all day 26 mpg on a V6 PreRunner is a bit farfetched.

Chris4x4 has had some actual access to trucks before release. I don't know the guy so I can't tell you what he does for a living that has given him this gift. He has seen the new Ridgeline and Frontier live I believe. Check back on this thread a few pages.

Also, my truck is modded. Modded trucks tend to sell better value when the next generation is released, since it'll be a few years before those sort of mods are readily available on the new model. It's really the only time you see people getting back good money on there mods without finding the perfect buyer.

Look at 95% of vehicles that see offroad use. They will be missing there plastic air dams. All the trucks at my workplace that are over 3 months old don't have them anymore, they're in a ditch somewhere. That Colorado air dam is some sort of massive. It won't last even that long if you go anywhere near mud.

Colorado/Canyon air dams are easily removable. Just more and more they're a design requirement for airflow/MPG maximization.

Absolutely, we just let them remove themselves over time. Problem is often the truck may have parts that don't look so great or will damage easily hiding behind that massive air dam. That's how it used to be on the old F-350's.

This thread helped with the motivation.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/new-members/329390-first-tacoma.html

Okay, first off, the biggest change is how you drive. I accelerate very slowly, usually shifting around 1500 RPM. That boosts your city mileage so your highway mileage is more of what you see. Next, don't go over 60 on the highway. I really got used to to it, if you really need to, go 65. I go 45 on city roads.

There is only a need to go "fast" if there is a very long stretch of road with no stops, go ahead and go fast if you're in a hurry. Otherwise, you can usually go 10-20 MPH slower than other vehicles and then wave at them at the stoplight.

I also don't use AC if I am about to be sweating anyway/already sweating. (To and from work. On a nice occasion or an off day, I suck it up and use it as much as I need).

Let off of the accelerator at the correct timing to coast into the stop without using much brake. This includes timing lights to catch green more often. If you know a stoplight and you'll be at a light for more than 30 seconds, cut off the engine.

Don't idle too much but ALWAYS let your engine lubricate (10-30 seconds at least) before driving after cold start.

That's about it. My Bridgestone Dueler Alenza Plus's witrh 16" rims gave me 3 MPG (was at 23 after the lift, 24 when lowered 3") more than my 20" chrome wheels and street tires. (yuck) But beware these are highway tires and aren't for mud. Sand permissable.

Buying an Ultragauge was absolutely the most important. Lets you know what you're doing and it is a continuous challenge to get that number up.

One last thing, sorry this is a wall of text. If you are on a slow road like a neighborhood or entrance road, don't go constant in a gear below 5th. Speed up to about 30 or 40 and coast until you need to speed up again. I do not like to coast and glide but I guess that's what this is.

Cruise control up hill or decelerate, then speed up to desired speed at crest and coast down. 999 MPG when injectors shut off. Anything else please PM me  I am looking to get some more MPG when I change air filter and spark plugs.

As for my MPG, I'm not much for lying to myself. You can read my above post if you like. I would rather round down then up. You could say my Ultragauge is off, but I used to hit my gas light at 350. Now I hit it at 420. Extra 70 miles for about 17 gallons of gas used before that light.. Sounds right to me. And now that you mention I've heard about Chris knowing that stuff. Good info. And as for your truck I see what you mean now but I still think the current model will depreciate when the 3rd gen comes (if ever).

And 99% of trucks don't see REAL offroad, just work and trails which don't require you to hit that air dam. Wheeling is when you'll want to lose that. That's why I said if I ever wanted one (I don't think it would look great on our trucks right now?) it would need to be removable, which it seems someone said it was.

Not really, some great conversation has gone down here, as well as speculation about the Tacoma and future upgrades. How can we evolve if we become complacent?

Sorry Toyota lost all claim to quality built trucks with the frame rust issues. No matter how strong the motor or how nice the interior fits without a strong reliable frame it's just(as we used to say in the 70's) jap scrap. I'm seriously looking at nissan for my next truck.

The 2015 Colorado looks a lot like the 2nd Gen Tacoma to me, but it could just be me seeing that. I think that is what Toyota needs to get them to come out with the 3rd Gen Tacoma. I'm going to be in the market soon for a new truck, got a 2006 with 115k on it, will be looking starting in 2015 so....

Actually it is possible to get 26 mpg with a V6, and I did it in my Access Cab 4x4. I took a round trip, 220 miles, filled up the tank next to the freeway on ramp and drove at 61 mph to my destination and return trip same speed, got off the freeway and 1/4 mile to gas station to fill up. 26.2 mpg.
