    Just picked up a Alpine head unit hopefully installing my panel this weekend even though I have no switches yet. Can't stand to see it sit on the table in the house any longer! Will upload pics

    So this is kinda for me and kinda for all the other electrical noobs that i'm sure have purchased this switch plate as well. i was hoping someone could give me a how-to regarding the wiring of the OTRATTW switches i just got. was looking to do something nice and clean like the harnesses PcBuilder14 did earlier in the thread. (I PM'd him but haven't heard back) I figured this thread could be an all around informative one stop spot for buying the switch plate, seeing the kinds of switches everyone is getting, and even getting some info on how to wire it all. Here is what I got... (upper dependant/lower independant) Can someone explain what tabs on the backs of the switches control what and can be wired to each other (in layman's terms please!)

    i bought the matching plugs and did mine like this. they all share the same power for the lights, and each one just turns on a relay.

    Why did you choose to use the terminal housing/packard terminal setup vs. the female quick disconnect? seems like it does the same thing except the housing takes up more space. No?

    i got them from otrattw web site.
    the only reason was that it was easier to prewire and if i need to change out a switch it makes it easy as i wont need to remember what wire goes where on these switches (as they have 5-6 terminals each)

    can you give me a quick explanation of what each of the prongs go to on the back of the switches i have posted above? i've found a number of contradicting wiring schematics online...

    the diagram needs to match your switch. they dont make it easy either lol. what is the exact part number for your switch?

    mine is V1D1JHNB

    i haven't been able to find any diagrams that have that exact number on it. the diagram they sent me in the box says V1D1JHHB which is close I guess but I don't know what it means. LOL

    The first five numbers or letters of the product codes determine which wiring diagram you use. The next set of letters is what color LEDs are installed in the swtches.

    On the V1D1J:

    Terminals 7 and 8 are grounds for the LEDs in the switches. Those can be all jumpered together and connected to a single grounding point.

    Terminal 6 is a positive connection for the second light in the switch. This one is normally connected to either a keyed power source to be on when you turn the ignition on or it could be connected into a dash light circuit to be on with the headlights.

    Terminal 2 is connected to a fused power source such as the battery, etc.

    Terminal 3 is connected to the accessory or to the relay for that accessory.

    The reason these switches have two grounds is that certain vehicles use both the positive and negative to dim the dash lights.
