2wd on sand w/ 6 inch procomp lift on 35's

hey guys im new to the forum, i was wondering how a 2wd 09 prerunner on 6 inch lift w/ 35 inch tires do on sand. im heading down to pismo beach to the pismo sand dunes beach for my bday i would like some information from you guys for a better point of view.

 

It would do great if you have some good tires and know how to drive the 2wd

im using bfg mud terrain km2's 35x12.50.17r how much air am i suppose to take out when im out there?

 

good choice of tires. when I drove on the beach i had mine 15-20. others will correct me if I am wrong.

 

so the back should be at 10 psi? or front should be on 10 psi....lol ive been reading other pples psi from 10 in the rear and 15 at the front should that be good ?

mud tires are actually not that good for sand, your better off with all terrains. the mud tires are built to dig in for traction, where as on the sand you need to ride on top of the sand. hence letting your air out.

 

Thus neatly explaining why the stock Duncraps actually do quite well on sand at 18 psi. I was able to drive up, down and around dunes like this one without challenge. My total for the day was about 10 miles.

Just make sure you let some air out like what Chris said, and make sure there is someone there that can help pull you out if needed.

 

i dont doubt it. letting your air out helps immensely, but in some real soft sand your better off with non mud tires.

 

i did fine all weekend without deflating. Even on the soft dune sand. Pulled out a stuck car as well.

 

yeah ive driven my truck on the sand on my all terrains full psi with no problem, but it would have been a whole lot easier in low psi.

 

That also holds true for 4X4.

 

the stock dunflops are great in the sand. i havnt had a problem yet. The KM2 are ok just done gas it very hard or you will just dig yourself a nice big hole.
