Just counted my coils, i have only 10, although the dealer knew that i was going to install the bull bar and the winch, he went with 881. It is my mistake since i did not reasearch enough and i trusted them too much.
What choices do i have other than 882? I mean are there even stronger coils or 882 is what should be recommended for bull ball + winch?

Edit: i had to install a spacer over the coils so that the front gets lifted a bit because of the weight and the 881s, i will get rid of the spacer as soon as i can and change the coils to 882s or whatever else you guys recommend.

 

Have you ruled out they are 883s?

 

Bull bar and winch might be ok with 881's, depends on the weight. Synthetic rope will keep weight down too.

Don't flame me if this is a dumb question... If I just put longer shocks in the stock location, will I get more flex? I know longer shocks will help me, but do the mount locations matter much?

 

Not exactly. There are other limiting factors that include C/V axel flex and ball joint flex for down travel, and bump stop location (we hope) will limit uptravel.

The extended travel coilovers remove some internal stops to give you an extra 1" of down travel but only work if you have aftermarket UCA's (the stock arms WILL BIND and limit your down travel).

If you are interested, the Tundra 5100's are interchangeable and have a bit extra down travel (~.5") and an inch extra of up travel. With new UCA's you can get some extra down travel and with some mods to your bump stop (and maybe some fender cutting) you might get another inch of up travel. They are valved about %30 stiffer so ride quality might be bumpy without weight on the front end.

Oh. Well same thing. Depends on leafs, shackle length (longer shackles can help droop/down travel), and keep an eye on your brake lines .

If you go too long on the shocks (assuming stock mounts) you may limit up travel because you will have to put in new bumps to prevent bottoming out the shocks. If they are too short, you will want limit straps to make sure you don't put the weight of your axel on the lower shock seals.

Idealy you would set up your rear end (leaf pack, shackles, etc...) then purchase the shocks that best match your overall travel.

If you do it right (or just get lucky) the leafs will be the up and down limit so you dont have to worry about limit straps or new bump stops. If you can't acheive that, you generally (for most conventional setups, LT is a different matter) want a longer shock and bigger bumps, the extend for better down travel, rather than a shorter shock (better up travel) and limit straps.

I think 10" shocks are about the biggest you can go without getting too exotic. Im running 10" 5100's (pre 95 Toyota Truck 5100's are 10" or you can get some 5125's) with the OME leafs + AAL and All-Pro lift shackles (the smaller of the two, forgot how much lift it adds).

I called DSM, and they recommend I measure out the length. Not sure when I can afford new shocks.... But sounds like a fun mini project.

 

Oh, and I did manage to do this with my ome susp.... Note the tire off the ground haha.

 

Sorry for not responding earlier, i ruled out the 883s because after a few days of installing the bumper and the winch, the front end went down a lot, as if i did not have any lift installed. That s why i installed the spacers later on.

Regarding John's question on shock length mounted on stock shock location... if you have a 10" travel shock, is it ideal that the shock sit at about halfway point when on flat, level ground? That way when daily driving the shock has 5" of up travel and 5" of down travel?

 

Simple question but hard to find an answer to; if I put 883's on my front bilstein 5100's set at 0, how much will I need to lift the rear to level the truck? 04 excab v6. Anybody?

 

I lifted my rear end 2.5" with the 883/5100 set up. Doing that gave me around an inch of rake, depending on if I have a full tank of gas or not. Lol.

 

Very helpful. I'm leaning 1.5 aal. From what I've researched it seems like 883/5100 will lift the front 2-2.5

 

2-2.5 inches of lift sounds about right. Iva also got stock leaf springs so the amount of lift you want may be different than what I did. I used the Toytec adjustable shackles.

Do shackles effect load carrying ability of the truck at all? Or does it basically preserve stock characteristics and just lift it
