I noticed that your AC vents and shifter console are already black. Did you change out the silver?

I thought the base taco came with black a/c controls?

So his base Tacoma came with the silver steering wheel accents only?

Honestly it was a surprised to me that I could have a base, with steering wheel audio controls, and the silver trim. But since my truck is a DC, PreRunner perhaps that has something to do with it? My truck also has the conv group pkg, which includes power glass, mirrors, locks (keyless), rear slider, tilt wheel

But it didn't have rear camera, or intermittent wipers. As far as I've seen, my '14 Base, is the first I've ever seen with steering wheel controls. Althout, my buddy has a bone stock, reg cab 5-lug, base, 5-speed manual, with steering wheel controls too.

The steering wheel actually matches the subtle piano black trim around the door tweeters now. Nice touch actually, I don't want to get too crazy with this theme. The initial goal was to just replace the silver.

It's not really gloss black, it's more like a really dark grey, metallic.

    Easy to remove and install.

    1) Disconnect battery, as you are messing with the SRS Airbag.
    2) Pop off two plastic covers on the sides of the steering wheel, to reveal a torx screw on both left and right sides of the steering wheel. *These torx screws hold the Airbag & horn section in place. The screws don't actually back all the way out, so you essentially just loosen them and the Airbag is in your lap.

*Note I did not actually disconnect my SRS AirBag, as I've heard that some people have had to make a dealer trip because they disconnected the airbag, and it threw a code.

You basically want to throw a towel over the top of the steering column, and set your airbag there while you swap everything over (Don't unplug the airbag)

    3) Once the airbag is out of the way, it's easy, as the screws thata hold the silver plastic trim are exposed. Un screw the plastic trim (audio controls) and unplug the ground (attached to airbag assy) and the audio controls plug.

    4) The 4Runner plug will not work in the Tacoma clock-spring for what ever reason, even though it physically plugs into the same location.

    5) Remove the pig tail and guts from the back of the old Silver audio controls/ trim, and reinstall on the T4R new parts. Should match back up no problem, and all features you had before will and should work on new parts.

    6) Reinstall everything in reverse, and your done.

Yeah, just traded this $52K FX4, for my $25K PeeRunner because we doubled our mortgage payment over our last house, so the kids could go to better schools.

Better Home > over better truck, that's how I see things.

I've had a Porsche 911 Carrera, Mercedes SL500, WRX, Camaro, '05 Dodge Diesel, etc.... If I died tomorrow bro, I would have driven and owned some nice vehicles. At this point in my life, I could just as soon drive a beat to snot '86 Ranger. PreRunner, TRD, Limited, 4x4, 2wd, scooped, non scooped etc... doesn't mean squat to me these days. Just need to get to point A & B reliably and economically with the least financial burn in between.

Will probably get into the next gen Ford Raptor, after I'm done paying $2K month on full time daycare.

But whatever truck I'm driving, I'm still going to personalize it a bit to my liking. That painted silver trim was driving me nuts!

No, just a weekend warrior. Cabs are like a lose noddle on HPDE's, unless you add a lot of bracing. Most events won't allow you to run a cab either unless you add the ugly roll bar.

So ... the two "Chrome" sides are removed? The two pieces I want to paint black? Am I reading this right?

All the OP cares about is getting from point A to point B.........but spends $325 changing steering wheel trim.

    Say what????

You have to see it to believe it. Next time your at the dealer, peek into a '14 TE 4R, the wheel is purdy and I just had to have it. Simple as that, I don't want to be "That guy" but $325 to someone making $12-15K a month, isn't the same to say a person making $12.00/ hr just saying.

It's so easy to make a snarky comment about what someone spends their money on, but you have no idea what their actual finances are. $325 for one person may seem like a lot to one, but pocket change to the other.

I'm not rich, but I also didn't blink an eye when I gave my "slush-fund" debit card number over to the Toyota parts vendor. To each his own, get over it. People spend $3K on shocks, just because they want to see that cool remote reservoir under the fender, and have no intentions of racing out in the desert.

How many people have spent a G on a scooped hood, that is fake. Just for the look. Who cares what it costs if the person doing the mod is stoked.

I'm suddenly really glad I got a '13 Taco, that steering wheel has WAY too much going on.

What's different about a '13 - '14 steering wheel? Thought they were the same from '12+
