Happy Saturday all! I just need some experienced ears that would tell a novice "mechanic" what to check next on my 07 PreRunner Double Cab 6cyl with 125k miles. I have seafoamed, cleaned throttle, changed plugs, serp belt, oil ,& air filter recently. Truck is having it's first issue ever after not being under Toyota maintenance, but has been well driven & maintained since I bought it at 11k miles. I never have messed with the auto tranny at all but fixing to after this problem is fixed. It has lost a lot of power and this sound has just started. AC is off in this video. The sound is not consistent and is brought on by acceleration below 2k rpm.
No codes except for readiness ones of P0300-100-102-125
Thanks for taking the time to help!

You said AC off, but is your fan (blower motor) on? Could be this.

I have never heard this sound except while driving above 20mph. Whatever it is has to be related to my loss of power. I figured it was valves or something else that I have zero experience with . It more times sounds like a big bullfrog instead of a chirp but it's in the process of getting worse. Everyday is a new symptom it seems.

From your video, the sound is high pitched meaning that its possible its derived from engine rpm,s .

Two things to try in the breakdown of this diagnostic .

1- Remove the serpentine belt and run the truck for a short period of time to see if the noise remains . This will eliminate all rotating pulleys and belts on the front of the engine . When you bring it to the shop , this is what they do .

2 -Try duplicating the noise in your driveway . Hold your brakes hard , put the transmission into drive and bring the rpm,s up to where you notice the sound . In your case the sound shows up under 2000 rpm .This is called a stall test . Is the noise still there ?
This will eliminate all drivetrain components as nothing is turning .
When you bring it to a shop , this is what they do

Ok I can see that I went a out this all wrong . I apologize. I was trying to diagnose my power loss . The addition of the sound was another clue.
I can repost it better and start over if needed. I
It is a huge loss of power that feels like low oil pressure and I have tried many things. The new sound worries me of the damage I am doing because it's my only vehicle but perhaps the sound is unrelated. Sorry again!

Question. Is the noise only present when you are accelerating? Does it go away if you let off the gas and coast?

If you put the truck in neutral while rolling does the noise go away?

The noise has been very intermittent and only happens at acceleration, from what I can hear in the cab, while driving. Yes it goes away when I let off the gas, when it is happening.

You are so right, but I have no choice at the moment. The recommended repair guy is on vacation for a week as well, but I will be driving it as little as possible. Once I can get up to 60 it runs normal.
Thank so much for the info!

No codes except for readiness ones of P0300-100-102-125. Not sure what you are looking at. There is no such thing as readiness codes. There are readiness monitors. The codes you've listed P0300 is random misfire, I take it you meant P0100, P0102, and P0125? The First two are related to the MAF sensor. The last is Insufficient Coolant Temp For Closed Loop Fuel Control. Both of the MAF sensor codes deal with circuit "A" Any of these, other then the P0125 could be the cause of your no power problem. HTH. Forgot to add, that the if the engine is misfiring, that too would lead to power loss.

My first gen made a very similar noise when the carrier bearing went bad. Symptoms were pretty much the same. While accelerating the noise was obvious but went away the moment I let off the gas.

At first it sounded like birds chirping then turned into a loud squeal like yours.

Open the rear window on you truck and see if the noise seems louder as the carrier bearing in under the bed.

I'm sorry I don't understand your point. The codes that I mentioned are from the Readiness monitors. They are used in states for emissions testing. They use the same DTC codes as I mentioned. There are drive cycles that need to be done in order to pass those readiness tests. If they can't pass them , my OBDII reader shows me the codes that I need to run a drive cycle to complete or my problem areas to reach "readiness".
That all being said, I have those clues to what my power loss may be from .

What are using to check your codes? Yes, I understand more then you think.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
There are a few members around Knoxville. Might ask someone for a ride along to help figure out where exactly it's coming from? There is a Tennessee thread

My first thought is to look carefully around your belt and fan. Might be debris in there (leaf, plastic cup, ...).

But then since you notice it more on acceleration, I lean toward drive line. Get under there and see if the tailpiece of the transmission might be dented to where it could rub the drive shaft. Also, in general look for anything that might be rubbing the drive shaft.
You could unbolt center bearing on the drive shaft and see if it spins easily around the shaft. Then bolt it back up (make sure you center it) and remove bolts at back of driveshaft to see if that ujoint moves freely.

Something binding up along the driveline might make it feel like a loss in power and then once you get up to speed you've got enough momentum to overcome the binding. :notsure:
