Just bought a 2014 Tacoma, was what I paid too much?

Hey guys,

Just bought a 2014 tacoma 4door 4x4 with the v6 automatic engine and the towing package. It is the base model and out the door I paid $30,750 USD. I live in Texas and was wondering if what I paid was good.

Sounds high to me for a base model compared to Pennsylvania prices, but it may not be in Texas prices. I find that prices from sticker vary greatly based on geography. Then again.. out the door may be tax/title/plates which gets it closer to being more reasonable.

 

I got the same thing with the long bed and SR5 package and paid $33K in Las Vegas.

 

I have a the same as you, minus the tow package and paid a few hundred less. But I bought mine at the end of October. It may have been a little high, IMO.

who cares? If you paid $2000 too much, what would you do about it?

Sounds fair. Cali is about 35000 or close to the number

 

Maybe SoCal. 35k for base 4x4 DC and tow isn't selling for that in my area.

OP ... first of all congratulations on your ride ... second of all, do you like your Tacoma ... thirdly, if you do like it don't second guess yourself ... you'll lose too much sleep.

Don't listen to those who say you paid too much ... there'll always be those beating you up ... I can almost guarantee you they paid more than what they say ... pay no attention to them ...

Just got to ask, did you negotiate any on the price? If you paid the full sticker than that is high. Just for reference I negotiated for 3-4 hours on my '14, Base Tacoma, DC, PreRunner and got barely $500 off.

I'm not new at negotiating a car deal by far, but negotiating a deal on a Tacoma is an entirely different animal. Walk into Ford or Chevy and they will give you $8-9K off without asking, by the time you leave you can shed $10-$12 without trying.

Trying to get $500 off a Tacoma is like getting a root canal. This is good overall though, as it keeps our re-sale values high, unlike some of the brands I just mentioned.

 

I'm sure in Texas a good 4X4 demands a good price, enjoy it. You purchased a great truck at a good price, have fun with it.

Always a bad question to ask. There is always someone who will chime in and say they got a fully loaded new 4x4 for thousands lower then you did. Half the time it could only be BS.

 

Sounds to me like you got a Good Deal.

 

Not even in SoCal, if you paid 35k for a base, you got robbed.

 

If this is the truck you wanted, don't fuss about it.
Many wive's tales, bits of wisdom, and cliche's out there.
Here's my take:
If you bought what you wanted, with money you earned, do not seek opinions.
I'm on Maui, when I was shopping in July, there were serious shortages, shipping issues.
If you want to believe that. The local lot is still low on stock.
I searched Oahu, all western states.
I bought from Oahu, more truck than I was in the market for, but very happy.
I have an access cab TRD Sport 4x4. Paid $32,200, total, out the door.
Shipping was $300.
If you fuss over money, it will always trouble you, and always be just out of reach.
Your mind should be occupied with how you can spend more on making your truck better.
Rules of the club states that you must post a photo.
Change your mindset, my friend, enjoy your truck.

Paid the same amount in DALLAS was a good deal compared to a few others good job OP

 

When I lived in Austin TX 80% of the trucks & SUV's were 2wd, since most of the area is flat, the Hill Country is hardly a hill. I can't speak for the rest of TX though.

I was told, it's because almost everyone in TX wants (Doesn't need) a truck, so they get or buy the least expensive versions they can afford, which is often going to be 2wd. Only Ranchers tend to buy 4wd there.
