On board air- A few questions

I am a noob to this and i got my taco about 6 months ago. I was wanting to put a on board air system on my truck. I know a compressor and a storage tank. I seen on here that it sayed i might need a regulator and how would i run the switched and guage into the truck. i am going to mostly be using this for a air horn and to air up tires. Any help is appreciated. and if you have any pics you would like to share that would help. prohunter57@hotmail.com. i will more than likely be mounting the compressor in the engine comp or in my tool box and the tank under the truck. feel free to give me any suggestions.

As far as "on board air" goes, why not just get a $25 air compressor that runs off of the cig lighter? Works great for all of my needs.... am I missing something?

 

That works too if its just for the tires, but can you run an air horn off of one of those?

I just put Firestone ride-rite air bags on my truck. I then mounted a small Viair compressor and 5 gallon tank. I plumbed the lines to the bags and switch, then thought of this very same idea today! So I went to the local supply house and bought a "T" to put off of the tank. I sent one side of the "T" to the bags and then put a air compressor female fitting to run my air hose, air tools, etc.. off of the other side.

Nice sounds like a cool set up. I still need to install and air tank for mine too. I am not sure where I wanna put it though. hmm...

 

I put my tank in the very back on the driver side. it tucks up out of the way nicely yet, I can still connect my air hose pretty easy.

This is m oba. No tank yet just the compressor and the lines run. it works great for tires and would be pretty easy to add a tank to.

thanks for all the post. Jtech what kind of compressor is that. Nice setup i think i am going to do something like that. floor guy if you think you could, put some pics up on here. I am wanting a air tank thinking about putting it in the tool box. my problem is i dont know much about compressors and tanks. if the compressor and tank are separete when i use air can i have it hooked up where the compressor will kick in a fill it back up and turn off. thanks for all the post.

The compressor is a Master Flow QMax you used to be able to get it at autzone for $25. I don't think they sell it anymore but you can still get them off ebay. it works great for the cost. alot of guys on here have them and love them. here are the specs on the compressor in case you want them.
Maximum Air Flow: 72 Liters Per Minute (this works out to about 2.54 CFM according to my calculations)

Yeah it is definitely not top of the line but for $25 you can't beat it. I use it for airing up tires and it works great for that. If i were to use air tools i would definitely get a tank and probably a better compressor
