Timbren and U-Bolt flip kit installation help needed...

I need some help. I got my rear Timbren’s and u-bolt flip kit today and thought I would find a simple DIY post somewhere on the forum but haven’t found what I’m looking for.

I saw this pic by JHodge83 just to prove that I searched before posting.


What I’m looking for is a photo of the Timbren’s installed with the u-bolt flip kit AND some assembly instructions. I have no idea if I need to preload anything, jack up anything, support anything, etc…

The Timbren instructions talk about mounting to the top of the truck, like what you see at this thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/7239-timbrens-installed.html

The problem is I thought I understood that the Timbren’s mounted on top of the flip kit (on top of the rear leaf springs) but can’t seem to find a picture or any good installation instructions with torque values or what I need to do. Remember, I'm running the stock rear leaf set up with the TSB (if that makes any difference).

So, if anyone could post pics AND some installation steps, I’d really appreciate it.

this one does NOT show the u-bolt flip kit. From my research it sounds like I can unbolt the factory u-bolt, remove it completely and reinstall the flip kit without jacking up the truck, or doing anything at all. Is this assumption correct?

Remember, your advise could end up getting someone hurt, so if you don't know what you're talking about, your non-response is greatly appreciated.

Edited: And yet another photo with the timbren's mounted on top of the leaf spring (at least I'm not crazy)... too bad the u-bolts aren't flipped...



Now, All that's left is to figure out the assembly instructions...

I found this quote (again on TN) and the guy made some recommendations which sound reasonable to me, but it sure would be good to get some feedback before I start with the install. Here's the quote...

 

My Timbrens are on the leaf pack. Which Leaf pack did you buy? Also do your Flip Kits have a mount for the Timbrens? I have the All Pro and the top plate is tapped for some screws to hold the timbrens on. I don't think I have any pics to show you though.
As for install, I'm assuming you're putting on the whole leaf pack too. Jack up the rear and place some stands under the frame towards the middle of the truck. That way you'll have room to move around. Loosen up the Shocks from the top, then the brake lines. I think I removed the front bolt first for the leafs. For the rear, you need to take of the shackle b/c you can't get to the bolt that attaches the leafs.
Use a jack if you need to move the axle up/down to get it in right.

yeah i'd jack it up if your flipping the U bolts...if it was just the timbrens you'd be fine with leaving everything on but im pretty sure your gonna need to take off the tire...

 

Well I'm not doing the leafs now as I'm holding off to do the rear leaf pack and probably fox shocks in the next few months... I really want to attempt to go off roading with the stock leaf pack (and the TSB leaf) before I add a leaf pack. The way the truck sits now, if I bottom out the rear suspension, I'm sure I'll rip off the fender with the taller and wider tires. Timbrens will keep this from happening plus it will let me get a much needed load or two of mulch for the yard.

 

I think you'd be fine without jacking up the car. The centering pins are gonna hold the Leaf in place. Just take off the tires, unbolt the old, put on the new. SHould be simple.

 

x2. I have the flip kit and timbrens sitting here waiting for my laziness to put them on. I hear its not necessary to take off the tires. But it allows for more working space. I am going to take them off since im a little tall. You will be fine unbolting the stock bump stops and u bolts. The leafs aint going anywhere.

sorry to get off topic but how the hell is the shock mounted to the axle with this kit? lol does anyone have alink im pretty curious...

 

???You mean the bump stop instead of shock? If so, it sits on top of the u bolt plate and bolts into the plate.

 

oh no cause isn't the shock mounted to a plate on the bottom? if you flip the ubolts there aren't any..unless its just straight to the axle?

 

Shocks mount to the axle, not the leaf pack.

this is how my Timbrens were mounted to my All Pro U-bolt flip kit...

2 holes were drilled and tapped onto the mounting plate for the u-bolt flip kit as seen in the pic...

Sweet. That's exactly what I was looking for. Any one know proper torque values for the u-bolts? I think I've seen them before somewhere, but can't remember.
