Here's my 2011 TRD OR 4x4. I did have the rear leaf TSB done 2 yrs ago. Sorry for the bad angle...best I could do with the wheel on. I think it shows the clips. Oh...the recall currently doesn't apply to my vin.

Yup...mine's included. I have the TSB leafs that were installed 7.5 years ago.
My leafs actually look pretty good..... I can't see any cracks or stressing - which is pretty amazing. This summer my truck was used pretty damn hard. Harder than its ever been used....with moving and yardwork. We loaded the piss out of the bed many many times.

I'm almost afraid to find out what they're gonna do......and if they replace the leaf pak completely, will the new leaf pak be as strong as the TSB leafs were?
I'll be pissed if I start bottoming out....

Whoever gets this fix done - POST UP!

okay mine is under the warranty years and if I go to Toyota owners I find it is qualified as well. Now should I remove the air bags prior to going in there or will it even matter?

I like how your cat is trying to assist you. And yes, that's the clip they are talking about. There needs to be a second clip on the overload leaf to prevent a broken leaf from shifting out of the pack.

Looks as if I'm not covered. Thanks Toyota. I guess my broken spring is normal wear.

My expectation if the campaign follows typical logic: Dealer will be instructed to inspect the leaf pack. If any broken leafs are found, replace leaf pack at no cost to owner. If no broken leafs are found, install just the clip.

Interesting to see Toyota set the factory brake bias at 80/20% F/R. In my Formula SAE days, the brake bias was made driver-adjustable, but we usually ended up with 70/30% as the sweet spot.

I will play the "harsh ride" card to the death. I will get new leafs out of this whether mine are broken or not. I will have new leafs!!

The " harsh ride " TSB only works during the bumper to bumper warranty period

Now there is an actual recall. Surely They'll be more inclined to just replace them. I have no warrantees left but a recall is totally different.

A clamp around them only bandaids the problem and quite frankly is bull shit. At least in MY Opinion. Still doesn't change the fact that the leaf can be broken.

Haven't heard of any of the new leafs breaking (2012+)

^Given the first reported case was in Canada, corrosion is likely the primary cause. (You'd expect the leafs to just sag if overloaded.) Corrosion takes time to develop.

It might be the motivator for Toyota to issue the recall now - as time goes on, they'd be paying for more and more replacement leaf packs, whereas now 99.99% of inspected trucks can be sent away with a clip.

Well they (Toyota) apparently told safetycars.gov they fixed it in 2010 by adding the clip. I'd say that makes it pretty obvious what the fix is.

Toyota does not appear concerned with leafs breaking or they would have recalled the 5 luggers as well. They are only concerned with the possibilty of a fire.
