I think it will hold up to a decent hit.

    nice!

i had to rework my rear hoop when i first built my rear bumper, because it had the potential to interfere with the coupler on some trailers that use larger couplers and/or don't require such a severe drop hitch. just something to keep in mind when figuring out exactly where it goes.

If I place the guard parallel to the top of the bumper then I will have interference issues with the trail vice. My standard drop hitch shouldn't be a problem, but I'm going to take that with me this evening to confirm.

I'm thinking that i will angle the guard up about 20º to clear the trail vice.

Oh, and that tubing is 1"OD x 5/16" wall cold drawn seamless. I think it'll take a hit.

you'll punch the ends of that tube through the rear bumper main tube before it bends lol.

for th hitch......i have this sneaky feeling that one day in the not so far away future, you'll start looking at wheeling trailers. no more drop hitch at that point.....

i have no roblem using the 6'' drop hitch for boat towing, but i am dangerously close to having issues when i hook up the off road trailer that uses a 1.5'' drop hitch flipped upside down to get the needed raise.

The bumper is finished! I finished building the crash bar and welded out the bumper tonight. My welds are getting better, not perfect by any means, but I'm happy with them.

I'm thinking I'll be able to paint the bumper Friday, and maybe get started on the lower rails of the bed tomorrow.

had the trailer hooked up yesterday, so i took some photos of what i was talking about with hitch ball clearance.

like you said, with a drop hitch, no issue, but you may have a clash if oyu ever use a raiser for an off road trailer. any closer, and i'd start worrying about mine.....

I see what you're talking about Colin. If worse comes to worse I will cut out the center of the cross bar and had two more supports so the middle will be open. For right now I'm good, sort of.

I discovered that after carefully laying out the hitch pin hole I drilled it too far back. My 10" drop hitch will not sit far enough back to put the pin in. Guess I'll be shaving the stiffener on the hitch before I use it again. Oh well.
