If the Colorado has the same engine as the Acadia you would have to be a fool to buy one. My wife has one and it has had so many recalls, the engine is garbage.

How many recalls has the Tacoma had? Yet we are not fools for buying Tacoma's?

If I remember correctly the only recall the tacoma has had that is related to the engine was on the 2005 engine mounts. To be honest, is it the engines fault that it's so badass that it tears itself right off the mounts? :)

They're was no recall for engine mounts. Seatbelts, leaf packs, frames, gas pedals are recalls off the top of my head.

I've had 2 on my truck alone, 13 months old. Frame failures, leaf spring failures, officially recalls or not they were large scale repairs and "recall" is a legally bound word AFAIK and avoided to be used. How many hundreds of vibration threads are there just on this forum of TW members? Tacoma isn't exactly a crap shoot, but ignorance is bliss.

Toyota is ripe with fuck ups. GM is too. The only difference in my mind is I THINK I can get several hundred thousand miles out of my Toyota, that's their perceived value. I don't feel that way with GM, though who knows if my Tacoma will be any more durable. I certainly don't.

I know... I was talking about engine related recalls on the Tacoma. I'm glad to see you read my posts.

Every vehicle has recalls. I'm definitely not blind to the Tacoma's faults.

I don't care if it's a Colorado or a Corvette, I'd never own a Chevy. My father loved to hate all the Chevys he owned. It was like listening to him watch the Phillies games and cursing the players and coaches all the while. He loved the team, and he loved his Chevys, but he loved to tell everyone how bad they were. And I noticed it too, about the Chevys; everything fell off or came apart eventually. The visors would fall off, the stereo buttons would fall off, the door handles would fall off, the a/c controls would fall off, the tailgates would fall off, hell, the muffler even fell off one day. The dashes would crack and peel apart, the seams in the seats would crack and peel apart, the steering wheel would crack and peel apart. It was a never ending story, much like my post could be. At least Toyota is using better glue....

4.3's normaly have really good low end, its a 350 minus 2 cylinders. Probably one of the best small truck engines ever made.

So the Colorado is supposed to get an 8-spd tranny in 2016. Not sure if it will help or hurt the truck's dragstrip performance (i.e. it might have to shift 1-2 times more to reach 1/4 mile).

I heard the same thing. Interesting to see the result of the 8spd with that diesel engine they're suppose to get in 2016.

Recalls aren't even the whole story anyhow. I know of no recalls on the 3.6 but you don't usually have recalls on engines because engine problems aren't usually considered safety problems. The timing chain thing on the 3.6 was a "customer satisfaction program" - just like Toyota did for the rust on the Tacoma frames.

The GM 3.6 was on Wards 10 Best Engines more than once. It's a good engine. Is it trouble-free? No. Nothing man-made is trouble free. I don't always see eye to eye with Consumer Reports but their reliability tables come from owner surveys. Look at an April auto issue at the "engine mechanical" category on the multitude of GM vehicles that have the 3.6. You won't see major issues.

Along with my '14 Tacoma, I still own my '06 GMC Canyon. It's equipped with the much-maligned I-5. To say the truck has been "reliable" would be a fair assessment of my experience with this GM product, but......

At around 84,000 miles I started to experience rough idle and a decline in gas mileage, all this attributed to the valve/cylinder head metallurgy used in these particular models. What should have been a recall by GM never materialized. I drove the truck until it would drive no more, and around 90,000 miles I nursed it into my buddies shop for an engine swap.

Aside from that debacle...I have never had to replace so many headlight, taillight, blinker and license plate bulbs in my entire life. You want to talk about thin sheet metal? Well, the Canyon has it as well. Pecans falling from the tree in my yard has left the skin looking somewhat like I had driven it through a hail storm.

I never really liked the interior, especially the instrument cluster; and the '15 version isn't much better.

The strong point about my Canyon is the ZQ8 suspension and the reliable automatic transmission, all made better by a few tweaks in the programming of the PCM.

When jumping into my Tacoma after driving around in the Canyon...I feel like I am driving a much higher-quality vehicle. My Tacoma is more powerful, feels sturdier, has less squeaks and rattles, has a much nicer interior and the overall "feel" of the vehicle leaves me with the feeling that I made the right choice in purchasing the '14 Tacoma instead of waiting a few months for the '15 Colorado/Canyons.

As one guy on the Chevy forum said: "Can't believe they (GM) took so many styling cues from the Tacoma".....left me feeling even better about being back in a Toyota truck again.
