IMG_4101_900e569144054606cc37c7ea6c21ada4c13831c9.jpg We pulled off and sat at a gas station after the snow was still coming down hard and after we heard of an accident of another truck pulling a trailer. Then we got back on the road taking it real easy.

I was using Goodyear SRA's which were a little wider than stock which also probably a hindrance. I will try to figure out if something is wrong with my 4wd. So far I found out I need an alignment and had a bad pass. side wheel bearing and lower ball joints.

Switching it out of 4wd took as long as 3-4 minutes sometimes (the light would be blinking) then it would be a loud clunk when coming out. I read online I should have tapped brakes to help it come out, I will have to play with it and see.

nice! im from Southern Alberta and am fully aware of our crazy weather conditions. especially in the mountains whatever the report says prepare for the worst and pray for the best. for work i spent some time traveling between Grand Prairie and Fort St John taking the "Alaskan Highway" very pretty but can be dangerous. nothing like passing double length trucks pulling lumber on a single lane highway in a rental. nothing like a good road trip adventure

Thanks for the link. I will order both wheel bearings from Bill. I'm going to call the dealership parts dept. and see how much the ball joints are.

Just saw the group buy thread, going to get a recovery strap. I was looking for one at the stores - I'm sure Ill have an opportunity to use it now that I'm here in the winter. :)

So you moved up here or are visiting us? Duratracs are supposed to be great in snow, good choice there. Glad you found the recovery rope group buy too, great tool up here.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Yeah, Judith Gap is real windy, but, a great location for those wind turbines. Here in Lewistown the wind isn't so bad because we are surrounded by the mountains. Did you stop and look at that prop they had on display? Amazing how big they are up close. I almost got a job working there, but, the position was filled by the time I applied.

I'd like to hear more about your experience doing this trip, pulling a trailer, with the 2.7l/5 speed. Particularly your evaluation of the ability of that configuration to handle the mountain passes.

That is the same config of my '14 Taco, and my wife and I are beginning to plan a multi-month across America road trip. We are thinking about upgrading for more power. How heavy was the trailer?

    best wheel bearings around! www.marionbumper2bumper.com
Some beautiful countryside for sure up there. I am not a fan of cold weather, being born in Florida, but I still like the idea of a short trip through there. In my years I have driven in some pretty nasty weather. Looks like you did a pretty good job of it!

(Hijack for a moment) I am about to purchase a 14/15 DCLB 4X4 to replace my 2002 Taco with the 2.7 engine. Love the 2.7 and mileage, but hate the towing capabilities. Typically tow about 2-3K pounds and it struggles in the hills, especially at grades in excess of 40 degrees. Have towed from FL to the PNW and all points between, which is why I'm getting a V-6.

Back on thread: OP, thanks for the running story and pics! The lessons are timeless.
