I haven't ever done it or even researched it. I know lots of guys do it though. I get rain and snow here so it is just as big of a concern for me. This thread on ih8mud popped up on google and seems to have good results. Sure there is more than one way to do it.

Check out this post further down. he used heyco water tight fittings. Looks really clean.

 

I've been under the impression of running the ligh bar wire down the side of the windshield to under the hood then run the switch wires threw the firewall into the cab. Seems legit

 

Good to see others have thought about this too. I like the marine connector idea, but I was staring at my windshield this am wondering about running wires down the gap between the windshield and the post. Holes in the roof do seem wrong, but I have the XM antenna poking through the back of the cab where Toyota installed it.

 

Hmmh similar to what I had in mind..Was thinking of actually fitting the light bar below the fairing and side mounting it to the actual rails and obliviously shorten the fairing. I'll hold tight until yours is installed and fitted with a light bar. And your right Heretic makes some killer, very detailed light bars indeed! Thats what your orange washers reminded me of them..Very good work and cant wait to see everything installed!

 

I have the same idea but my idea would need more area and different shape at the front most area of the side rails

I'm slowly putting thoughts into action. Not much free time right now

 

Yeah the configurations with the rack are almost endless. So many different ways you could adapt a light bar

 

Truth. Plus I have a 42" curved waiting to be install so there's a differance from the straight bar

 

So what was your plan on running the wires off the roof? I like to have a plan...execute the plan...

Got a pic of this? Need a cleaver method for installing and keeping it all nice and tight in there. Clearly that little gap is large enough for a few wires. I installed an Ultragauge above my mirror and I couldn't believe how much room was behind the front interior post. My plan is to buy a sPod and run the wiring up to the overhead console. Just haven't had time to get it all together, but now I've seen this rack with the light and it's calling to me. That's a slick set-up. Do I need a roof-mounted light bar...

 

I wonder if you could remove the satellite antenna and replace it with the marine bulkhead

 

Zach that this is awesome. Quick question, how much higher does the sides go compaired to the cross bars?

 

Maybe a 1/4 of an inch. Just enough to give the ends of the crossbars a decent load bearing surface. If you need something taller I will have a bolt on kit that adds a basket type rail around the sides soon.

Silicone tends to be a temporary waterproofing solution at least in my experience

 

I think it depends on the type, it seems that quality/composition varies greatly, although I don't have a ton of experience with waterproofing though. What are some alternatives you have used?

 

Probably so, I'll keep my eye on it... there is probably a better way to do it... when I had it run in front of my windshield along the "weather stripping" it always went everywhere at high speeds so I got impatient and Jimmy rigged it by drilling
