2014 Access cab sub options?

Hi folks. I'm looking around to see what's available for the '14 access cab design. In my 2010 AC, there was a sub on the back wall and a console in between the back seats but now its just a flat tray and the seat belts. Does anyone have a box suggestion that is known to fit this latest design?

You must of had the JBL system in your old truck. I had the same and sound was great but the box/console back there took up room. My new 2014 is like your AC and am looking at converting to a powered sub/woofer combo right now. I've been locally to our stereo shop but I don' t like the LOC he wants me to use. To simple so I'll be back with more info on my truck. I believe we have six (6) output speaker wires and if so I think we'll need a LCQ1 control unit and then a sub/woofer like the Focal iBus series. The sub should fit under the seat. Some are using Sound Ordnance and Kenwood units.

I need to find out how many speaker wires on our radio's need to be tapped. If it was just two, we can get by with a simple LOC. However, after researching a multi port LOC would be better for tuning the system when done.

I'll be doing mine in the next month once I have all my info straight and put a post here for others. Right now I'm doing the autodim mirror install.

 

yeah I'd be interested in price/results when you're done. my 2014 has pretty subpar sound. only complaint about the truck...

Following this post http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/318970-line-out-converter-help-needed-harness-wires-tap.html it was discovered that the wiring in my .pdf is not all correct. The colors are correct but the connections are not all correct. The factory "phases" the tweeter or mid-range speaker. So the wiring is neg to pos and pos to neg for it, but pos to pos / neg to neg on the 6x9 speaker. So, I'll be pulling my panels and just changing my 6x9 wiring to be pink + and purple - to the speaker. I've also updated my .pdf attached to this thread.

I can tell you that I will be using the Focal IBus 2.1 amp/subwoofer when I connect it to the system. Using it means there's no LOC that is needed because it's built into the unit.

Haven't done the amp/sub install yet, but I did do an upgrade to my speakers. What a difference! I have a short YouTube video here http://youtu.be/DYBBrAOKvu0 to let you hear the difference. I know it's not a professional test, but it was done in good faith. Same before and after settings including the song, ipod, camera and placement. Even my wife noticed the difference. I also have a .pdf document attached that details the install but I've put some photos here to help a little.

The HushMat really made a difference on how the door sounds now. I know it makes a difference on sound inside as well as its a weather temperature aid. Easy to install but be sure you put it where you want because it STICKS!!! No, I didn't boo boo. Just want you to know.

My total investment so far is $420.00. I got the speakers for $249.00 which is $150.00 less than Crutchfield. I've seen them on the web from $199 to $399.00.

Thanks for documenting your mods, this really helps. Seems I am a couple of months behind you.

On the video you posted, how much do you think the Hushmat figured in the equation? I used HM Ultra on all my doors and it made a huge difference wrt road noise and vibration with the stock speakers. I haven't decided on my speaker upgrade yet, but appreciate the time you spent putting this together.

 

To be honest, I don't know as I did the HushMat during the install. However, I do believe I'd still get better sound without it. As of now, the speakers sound good, but I'm going to make them sound great next month with the powered sub/amp. I'm going to install the Focal iBus2.1 just to keep all the same. I also was told the 2.1 doesn't need a LOC which is fantastic. My plan is to install it under the driver seat or at least the passenger seat.

The doors sound so much better right now and I'm going to put the HushMat in the rear AC doors as well. Those things sound like an empty beer can. I did notice a quieter driving experience as well.

I'm also going to replace the roof speakers and/or add rear AC door speakers to get a fuller sound. That may be a future project but I have nothing but time (retired). I have a few other mods I'm going to install (if you want to call them mods by forum standards).

Roof speakers!?!?! What the hell kind of tacoma did you buy?

 

2014 ACOR they all have six speakers. Two in the doors and two in the roof above the headliner. I must admit, the upper roof ones suck big time. On my PreRunner '09 I had the JBL and they sounded great. Now, it'll be me fine tuning my system. I may leave them in and mate them with new rears in the AC doors if I do that mod.

Yes, installed a Clarion XC1410 mini amp and placed it under the front seat. Perfect, out of the way and does plenty of uuuummmmpppphhhh!

Are you using the stock HU? How does it sound with the upgraded speakers and amp? I have an

$290 ALPINE KTP-445U Universal Power Pack

ALPINE KTP-445U power pack that I hooked up to the stock speakers and promptly removed until I can put in better speakers. The stock speakers just couldn't handle it...no surprise. I already have some Focal 6x9's for the front and just need to get some 6 1/2 or 6 3/4 for the rear doors plus some tweets for the fronts.

 

Yes, using the stock HU. Sound...GREAT with the Focal's and Clarion amp. You should have the same results with the Alpine unit. I have mine set to the higher frequency on the Clarion and it sound real good at a lower volume but doesn't distort at higher volume. The combo turned out better than I expected without dumping a lot of $$ into a system. I have plenty of clean sound. It'll blow me out of the cab if I needed to. I never tried the setup with the stock speakers so I can't comment on that sound. I did notice the Focal's with the stock HU sounded o.k. but after the amp was installed they sounded fantastic. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

 

Does your HU have Bluetooth?

I'm interested in doing pretty much exactly what you've done here, but my install guy told me I would have noticeable hiss due to the bluetooth microphone in my unit.

Thoughts?

 

Yes I have Bluetooth and use it for my phone/text calls mostly. I haven't streamed music from my phone because I use the USB port if I want it. Mostly use my iPod Classic through the USB or Satellite for music. Either way, I don't have any hiss or feedback with either setup.

 

OK cool, it's probably nothing too noticeable anyway. He's probably just being precautious for those customers who nitpick things most people wouldn't notice.

Took the truck out today and did a Bluetooth music sample from my phone. Worked like a charm. No hiss and clear as the radio or iPod. The iPod and Satellite are much better than the Bluetooth phone, but at least it works without a hiss. Hope this helps.

 

When you installed that Clarion mini amp did you use an LOC, a DSP, or just tap into the stock wires and use the high level inputs on the device?
