Driving Lights to Detect Deer

Hello all.
Currently I have been searching for a pair of driving lights.
The primary purpose of these beside the obvious objective of more light
Is to see deer at a reasonable distance before they lunge at my truck and to illuminate the dark twisty roads in WNY. Buffalo is also home to some snow
storms so illuminating the road in bad weather is also important.

Unfortunately my budget is limited to $180,
so that rules out a fancy Riged light bar.

I have looked at a set of halogen Procomp 100w 7in lights and a set of 55w Piaa
510 lights.

I would love to hear any suggestions.

I got a pair of hell 500s with hids retrofitted in and silverstar headlights. They make a huge difference and im thinking of getting some 700s and doing the same.

 

Total cost was under $100

 

I wanted the driving lights for the same reason . Although I have a 2nd gen Tacoma ,read my build page and I will bet you can do it for $180 easy .

Led,s draw much less power and have superior reflectiveness over your every day filament type bulb

 

Man those Hellas look great. I am torn on
The Hellas because I purchased a set of hella optilux
2020's and after a klutzy mistake I found that Hella
Does not offer replacement lenses.

Does anyone have experience with Pro Comp 9851 lights??
Also many people suggest piaa lights

Charles, save your money to help with the repair. Deer pop up so fast you won't have time to say OH SHIT! before you hit them.

Oh, I get it. The deer story is what you tell your wife.

 

Just my po, but LEDs are so much brighter and easier to work with then halogens. Plus they're smaller. I got my two Bean LED dually floods for about $100, then got the brackets for about $50

 

I have looked at Led lights and have found that to get High quality
A replacement parts LEDs can be expensive.
I am also unsure of what kind of range your LEDs provide

Not a pro with lighting here ,but LED,s are the way to go if your concerned about spotting animals . If a deer is half a mile down the road , Its eyes are going to reflect back to an led spot light . To prove my point ,use a regular flashlight shining at a dog and then use an led flashlight . Animal eyes reflect back using LED.

Why not get a pair or rigid dually? I have a set and like them. Great flood light and still shoot a good beam down the road. I have mine pointed off to the edge of the road and I see deer plenty time before they jump.

I ran the Pro Comp 9131's (8" round, 130wt)for about 3 years.... http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lighting...ht.aspx?t_c=14&t_s=448&t_pt=4242&t_pn=EXP9131 For $42 each, they worked great but eventually the metal housings rusted thru. Great spot lights but not much flood capability. And they were awful in snow....too much reflection blinding you off the flakes.

I'll be listing 2 brand new, never used or mounted Blitz Pro 18 LED light bars for a steal tonight if interested OP. The lenses are still wrapped.

 

While halogen lights are pretty damn cool looking, LED is where everything is going. They're getting cheaper all the time. Plus, like said above, LEDs will reflect animal eyes. They'll reflect anything haha. I have the floods. If I could go back I would have got the spots, but the floods are still really good. I was looking for something to throw light, so now the floods stay on the ditch brackets and light up the ditch. I'll be getting an LED lightbar to throw light forward

 

Seeing deer in time to avoid them is a lame excuse for mounting driving lights. Slow down and save your money for something useful. Bright headlights are useless when animals jump out of the bushes into your path and you're doing 90 because "you can".
