Maybe someone can confirm this but I believe the 2005 - 2011 hoods are different from the 2012+ hoods. I went a slightly different route with mine. :D

The scoops are not interchangeable... So no the old scoop will not fit on the 2012+ models. Sorry man. But having the LED in the scoop is awesome. I love mine there. c3ba86e28de8ad358f83d8336c779ee2_1a22ca017c66a3324cf1462b4367a83f4517f4d5.jpg

JRGMann and oOoSHADOWoOo thanks for your input. That answers my question. I will still keep looking for a solution. I want that 10" RI in the hood!. Looks like somebody needs to mold one for the new hoods !

I thought I'd seen a guy on here who had put a 10" LED bar in the new hoods.. I may be wrong but I could have sworn someone had. I think rigid makes a pretty slim LED bar.. But don't quote me on it

I would think it is impossible for one reason...The 2011 and older hood scoops actually had a cavity where something could be mounted with a grill in front of it. The 2012 and newer scoops don't a cavity. There is just a plastic insert that gives the appearance of a grill.

I took this insert out, cut a slot in the plastic behind it, and mounted the row on LEDs behind the scoop. The opening is only like 3/4" tall and there is almost no room in the area between the back of the scoop and the hood. Anything mounted in this area will need to be pretty small.

I first saw the YouTube video of the 10" Rigid Industries bar in one of the older scoops and wanted to do that too but then discovered that putting that particular bar in would be impossible. If anyone finds a high powered LED bar that will fit in the 2012+ scoop, I would be very interested in seeing it. Until then, I'll just do the Knight Rider thing. :D

Is that part binary too? Cause that's a tiny lightbar.... :p

Actually ....Binary has much to do with the "lightbar" in my hood scoop. It is controlled by a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) which of course uses binary in the programming. :D

Yes, I'm a "Bit Head" :typing:

I am still amazed to this day that my write-ups from my first Toyota are still being referenced. Your write up is really great! Thanks for doing it!

...now to convince the wife to let me do this to our hood scoop...

Can you program the scoop light to work in conjunction with the turn signal and have it display an arrow pointing in the same direction as the turn signal?

I can't do an arrow because I just have single row of 30 LEDs, but I could sequence them from left to right or right to left depending on the direction I was turning.

I did modify the turn signals in the nirrors to be on whever the parking lights are on, but also still blink when the turn signals are active. :D

Is there a write up on the parking light mirror mod? Searched but couldn't find. Been thinking about trying that. I would also like to be able to see the signal light on the mirror side. But not one of those cheap stick on lights but maybe a small led somewhere on the mirror side.

    Here you go...

I need to update the wiring diagram a bit, for the most part this thread shows the way I did the turn signal mod.

Also, do not try to remove the lens from the turn signals or you might end up cracking it like I did when I tried to do this on the passenger side. I just got lucky on the driver's side. I should probably update this thread as well but I've been doing other things. If you have any questions just post them or PM me. :D

    Hey Op,
I was a tad confused with the bolting of the light. is there anyway you have a short clip to show the bolting from a different angle?
thank you for the detailed explanation though! can't wait to do this!

Hey, I just looked and the last time the OP posted in this forum was about a year ago. Good luck getting a reply.

Besides, your hood scoop is smaller than the OP's since you have a 2012+ Tacoma. However, there is a guy who is making and selling custom brackets along with an LED light bar that will fit in the 2012+ scoop.

Here is the thread if you're interested.

I can, but as o0oSHADOWo0o mentioned, the hood layout on the 2012+ are different and will not fit the Rigid light bars.

    I know right?!?!?!
