I'm in the market for a taco doublecab and have never owned one before. What is the difference between SR and Prerunner? Trim package? I can't seem to find any manual trans models. Do they exist? What size camper trailer will a V6 comfortably tow? Any advise or recommendations would be appreciated.

I was able to build a DC v6 manual. Not sure about the 09 model thats coming but it was an option when I was looking at 08 models. I even saw a DC prerunner on the dealer lot with the 6 speed.

The V6 Taco can only tow 3500lbs. If you get it with the factory towing package you can tow 6500lbs.

How do you plan on using your truck? Personally I prefer the TRD Models because they have better seats and I prefer the Off Road TRD because I like to Off Road and wanted the locking differential. I would not buy a Taco without the factory towing package.

Probably about 80% highway, 10% off road and 10% towing and hauling camper and dirt bikes. Is the Prerunner a tow package?

Interesting. I was told with my '07 that I couldn't get it on the DC. Not that it matters because I didn't really want it, only to test drive (I test drove an AC instead).

Come to think of it, Pierced has one and I think his is an '06. Good thing it didn't matter cause I should know better than to trust a sales weasel.

I'm pretty sure the Prerunner is a model which is a 4x2 with a regular body suspension that LOOKS like a 4x4. The tow package is a separate option.

A PreRunner is a 2wd Tacoma with a 4x4 Suspension giving it the looks, and ground clearance of the 4x4.

    The tow package is separate.

That was my issue was finding an 08 with the tow package as I wouldn't want to buy it without that...along with a few other things that are only part of packages

I know for sure that you can only get a Double cab with a Manual if its a short bed. No such thing as a long bed manual.

^That must be what I was thinking of. OK, so I'm not a complete retard (only partially).

I wonder if it would be more accurate to say its a 4x4 without the front diff., front drive shafts, and transfer case. The frame, spindles, axel, brakes, etc. is the same as the 4x4 models, not just the suspension. :)
